So....
We didn't really get a happy ending after "The Burning Tide", So I was foolishly hoping to see where our four heroes where now and how their friendship, their family and their overall lives where now.
But they don't get a moment's rest.
After Zerif and the Wyrm took control over (most) of the Greencloaks and forced them to fight the rest of the world, their friends and families. It, of course doesn't come as a surprise that the rest of the world doesn't trust the greencloaks anymore.
Even though our four heroes, the Redcloaks and a whole lot of other people destroyed Zerif and the Wyrm the world is in distrust.
The Greencloaks are hunted and put on trial for crimes they did under the influence of the Wyrm. They are blamed for the death of the Zhongese Emperor when he gets murdered by imposters.
I think the Oathbound are responsible for the emperor's death, or even Princess Song. Although I'm a big fan of Anka, I can't shake the feeling that something is wrong. Somehow the Oathbound keep finding our heroes and Worthy is trying to hard to be "worthy" of their trust. So I think Anka is the traitor.
Also, Shane loved Abeke...

A funny ending to a new adventure. Hopefully, all will go well for the Four Heroes.

On pg. 5, Abeke says she knows better than anyone else that the Wyrm's influence couldn't be easily forgotten after Conor keeps rubbing his forehead. Conor was taken control of and forced to betray his friends. I'm pretty sure he's the one that knows better than everyone else. And she says it was "somehow worse for him." He was literally mind controlled lol. Having your spirit animal taken away is terrible, but at least you weren't mind controlled.
Wow, Anka and her chameleon are the first to have something about an animal be correct. Chameleons change their color and texture based on their surroundings, not their mood. I'm pleasantly surprised that someone finally got something right!
Overall, I'm really happy with this one. I was worried after the ending of the last book these last three would just be nonsense to drag the series out more, but at least Prineas did it well!
I'm glad Worthy got a redemption arc. I like Anka. I like how the heart worked like a talisman. Ultimately, I don't have too much to say about it. It was a good addition to the story that I enjoyed.
The fights were exciting, the character development was on point, and the animal knowledge was finally right. Couldn't ask for more!

I thought this series was over, so was confused to see the next few books pop up in Overdrive! I did enjoy this, but I found it a bit hard to get back into - not because I didn't like the writing or plot, but because I had already closed the story in my brain.
