The good news is that this book exceeded my expectations. That said, it would have been impossible for it not to have at least met my expectations, as they were very low. This book was selected by one of my book clubs, and it's the type of book I stay away from -- pop fiction written by authors who write a book a year, with light plots that are largely forgettable. It reminded me of another book I had been forced to read that was also about some horrible people from Connecticut who throw a wedding on Nantucket. I have to say, there must actually be a lot of awful people, especially from CT, who have weddings on Nantucket, because they sure seem to inspire a lot of novels. It makes me glad I've never attended a wedding on Nantucket.

I was able to read this book quickly, and it went pretty much as expected. All of the characters are unlikable, shallow people. None of the characters are portrayed with any real depth -- I wouldn't have cared in the slightest if the ending had been that a rare and unexpected tsunami enveloped the island and killed every last one of them. This is pretty much the stereotypical New England characters brooding about life, love, and shellfish. Many other reviewers seem to dislike the dead mother and her notes about the wedding, but I had no issues with that. A woman who knew she was dying and who had obviously always wanted to plan a wedding on Nantucket left a notebook full of the things she would do. The daughter did not have to follow them, and the mother makes this quite clear. Of course, the daughter does follow them, and ends up with a pleasant wedding. Nothing especially new here.

Flat characters (who end up being unlikeable to boot), little plot, nothing deep or thought-provoking. I give it a 2, because it did exceed expectations, and I knew this book wasn't going to be thought provoking or have deep characters. It's pop fiction, written for mindless entertainment, and I suppose in that sense it succeeds. I'm sure the people who think they will like this book will like it. I won't read this author again unless a book club I'm in selects one of her books.

Oh hello, suddenly I love beach romances.

The perfect beach read!

Another fun and easy read. I actually listened to this one, sometime light and enjoyable for the car or while I’m working on my puzzles. Not my favorite Hilderbrand but enjoyable.

Great beach read, very heartwarming.

I really enjoyed this one. So glad I gave it another shot.

I was so happy to receive this book from a Goodreads giveaway. I'm a big fan of Elin Hilderbrand and this book did not disappoint. It's a great summer read with well developed characters. It is the weekend of the wedding of Jenna and Stuart. The wedding is guided by "The Notebook" written by Jenna's now deceased mother. I loved the entries from the "The Notebook" throughout the book. Loved the member's of Jenna's and Stuart's families. Thanks, Goodreads!

I received this book as a Goodreads Giveaway and absolutely loved it! I've read books by Elin Hilderbrand before, but this is by far my favorite. I loved the fact that it took place over one weekend and I thought it was clever that the story was told from the point of view of the guests and not the bride and groom - who would typically have been considered the main characters. Highly recommend this book - especially good to bring on vacation!
