This book delivers everything you could want from a wedding book- love, family drama, scandal and tradition. It's a fun read that manages to still pull at your heartstrings. It's a reminder of the beauty and complexities of family and marriage and a soapy yet insightful look at the magic of a wedding weekend. This one will make you want to set off for a weekend at the beach and call all your family members and tell them you love them.
LOVED this book- I always love Hilderbrand's book; but this one made me laugh and cry! All the characters were very realistic! LOVED IT. Great Summer read!
Beautiful Day was my first Elin Hilderbrand book and I wasn't disappointed, not by a long shot! I breezed through it in 3 days and enjoyed it thoroughly. The story is about a family who gather together for the youngest daughter's wedding on Nantucket. What makes this wedding a little different is that their mother passed away a few years ago but she left a notebook for her youngest daughter filled with instructions/suggestions for her future wedding.
This book reminded me of a wedding movie as I read it.. you know the kind of movie where the family all comes together from leading their separate lives, each with their own problems and drama and somehow try to make it work in the end for the sake of the bride and groom.
The setting was lovely and I was swept away in the beauty of Nantucket. I enjoyed getting to know each character and found their stories interesting. Margot had me rooting for her through every curveball thrown at her, though I was irked at her siblings for leaving so much up to her and expecting her to handle it all! I related to Jenna, the bride, the unplanned baby of the family (so was I!), and the one who was left behind when her much older siblings became adults and moved out and on with their lives. She wasn't a main character but there were some tearful, sweet moments hearing her story. The only character I found a little unbelievable was Ann. The choices she made throughout the story didn't make much sense to me and I admit I rolled my eyes more than once.
Last but not least, the notebook... a sweet idea right? In theory, yes! And I liked the premise when I began the book. Beth, their dear mom, most definitely did make her presence known throughout the wedding.. but I'm not sure what happened because at some point it became a tad bit overbearing more than sweet and I hate to say that because overall I truly liked the book! Ah well!
Overall, I did enjoy this story and I am now a fan of Elin Hilderbrand. I will most certainly be reading more of her work in the future! Check it out if you are looking for a light and fun read!

It seems that sometimes weddings can bring out the worst in people. This book proves this as all the characters are rather unlikeable.
This book had less likable characters than most of Elin’s other books, but it was such a sympathetic portrayal of the many difficulties that can arise in marriage/relationships that I couldn’t help but love it. Margot was particularly relatable for her competence alone
I really enjoyed this book. It was fun, exciting, nerve-wrecking and Loving at the same time.
Jenna Carmichael’s wedding will be perfect. Her mother, Beth, has made sure of it. Knowing she was dying, Beth left the Notebook, suggestions for each aspect of Jenna’s big day. “…song lyrics often make good readings. Try the Beatles. No one has ever gone wrong with the Beatles.”
Taking Beth’s suggestions as unquestionable and gospel, Jenna and her older sister Margot, different as can be, do everything they can to stick to their mother’s wishes, but even with or perhaps because of her input, each family member still keenly feels the loss.
The Carmichaels and the Grahams, the groom’s family, are loving, but as in any family, tension and long-held resentments surface. Brothers and sisters rail against their traditional positions. The father of the bride desperately misses his former wife and questions his current marriage. The sister of the bride wonders where she stands with the man she’s secretly been dating. The groom’s mother and father – married twice – navigate an old rift, namely the woman with whom he cheated and had a child.
As everyone tries to come together, the Notebook and the carefully laid plans are threatened, leaving everyone to realize that in holding tight to the past, good or bad, they may be threatening their own futures.

Read for BBBC's Summer 2020 Nantucket Nights challenge.
Another one from Elin Hilderbrand! This might have been my least favorite so far. I felt like it was super long and I never found myself fully hooked/engrossed. As always, most of the characters are unlikable but in Beautiful Day, they aren't even fun to dislike? I thought the storylines were even more all over the place than usual and I honestly did not care about anyone's drama (and there was a lot of drama). I expected much more from a wedding on Nantucket type of story!
