I like cozy mysteries. I liked Dessa. She had a good heart and generous nature. I wished she would stop ignoring her psychic abilities. Or, I wish she would stop being so inconsistent in acknowledging them.

I could see a burgeoning romantic relationship between Dessa and Lennox Royal. I also like him. Some of the other characters are so unlikable it is ridiculous. I'm not sure if having characters who happen to be unpleasant with one redeeming quality make me want to read something.

I liked the narration. I enjoy the mystery and intrigue. The series is slowly growing on me, but if the rest of the cast of characters continue being as self absorbed, selfish, and unpleasant, I am not sure I want to continue. I read for pleasure and relaxation, not to dislike almost everyone in the book. Lol.

Wesley continues to shine in her character building and atmosphere in this second book of the Odessa Jones series. Even with the inclusion of magic, these books feel so grounded in complicated emotions and growth in a way that can be rare in cozy mysteries. I'm looking forward to reading further in the series.
