Too triggering, didn’t care enough about the plot to push through

Okay, I don't know how to feel about this book. Did I like it? I think so? Could I put it down? No f'ing way. Of course the writing was phennomenal, and I was on the edge of my seat waiting to see what happened, both in the manuscript and also between the main characters. I hated Verity (the character) which was obviously the point, and felt so much for Jeremy and his little family. But that ending, holy shit. This might be up there in terms of biggest plots twists I've read in a while. Wowzers. Well done 👏

I'll start off by saying this book was extremely well written. The plot toyed with you just enough that you always wanted to know more. I did read it in about three days.

With this particular story, I gave it a slightly lower rating not because of the book itself, but because of my own preferences - at the end of the day, I do not think this book was written for me..

I appreciate the bold, dark and twisted turns this novel takes. It explores area's that are not often spoken of or explored and I do believe that starting those conversations is an important role to be had.

[[ Below contains slight spoiler. No direct events are mentioned, though it does hint at the tone of the final outcome of this novel, which could still spoil the reveal for some. It has been appropriately marked/covered]]

At the end of the day, however, I prefer my stories to be a little bit happier.
Even the conclusion of this novel is left with a bit of a dark, bitter implication behind it.
Which, ad previously stated, is not inherently bad, however it is not my cup of tea.

Still an excellent novel and will be a fast read for anyone who is looking for such things.

I get why so many people recommend this boom. It is not hard to read at all but the story hooks you very early on and you will want to keep reading! I personally felt sick reading it until the very end! Loved it!!

The writing style seemed a bit juvenile to be the inner monologue of a published author in her early 30s. Otherwise, a really good read. I had guessed a significant portion of the plot early on but was still hooked all the way to the end.

YIKES. A “holy shit” yikes. A “this is wild and a very bad scenario these characters have found themselves in” yikes. A “that ending is making me question reality” yikes. Couldn’t stop reading it-but holy shit so dark so scary

I have no words. Truly. Colleen has such an immaculate talent for writing and that can’t be denied.
There was not a single page I dreaded flipping, expect maybe when it came to how tangible my fear was.
I don’t want to say much when it comes to the plot as this is a thriller, but as is the theme with Colleen there are quite a few spicy scenes so this is probably another one to skip out on if that is going to dampen the enjoyment of the story.
