I didn't think I would ever say this but this is too dark for me,.?

I love CNC, love all the kinks, haunting adeline or den of vipers: give it to me, love even a little bit of dub con dabbled in. Morally grey, even dark grey is a total green flag in my book.

But this, this is just glorified rape. Why would someone enjoy this. There isn't even a question about it. It.is.straight.up.rape.

While doing the deed she cried and doesn't want it and is forced to do it,  (we have her perspective, she really doesn't want to) and afterwards she does stereotypical rape things like washing excessively bc she feels dirty.

He is a straight up psychopath. Which I might be able to tolerate if there is a shred of humanity left, like in most books.

But in this one, there really is no emotion, no guilt, and everything else you need from a Ted Bundy esc serial killer and rapist.

Because that's what he is.

I'm all for dark romance.

But this is glorified rape porn.

As someone who has been raped more times that I can actively remember, RAPE IS !NOT FUN! AND SHOULD NEVER EVER BE ROMANTACISED OR GLORIFIED.

Way too over hyped. From an ethical standpoint this book is very debatable.

This is a dark romance, with a twisted MMC. He’s portrayed as a psychopath and in the trigger warnings the author states that he is truly dark, leading me to believe he has no redeeming qualities. Yet, when he meets the FMC Glyndon he starts to feel something.

By the end of the book, they’ve both said the L word. So, I disagree with the author statement. I don’t believe he’s a true psychopath. He is intriguing enough to make me finish the book, and I found him much more endearing than the FMC (I’m not sure what that says about my own mental state!).

It’s an easy, relatively quick KU read. Entertaining, with some decent and dark spice, but I wouldn’t say the spice is majorly taboo. There’s a bit of non-con, some spanking, hand necklaces, but nothing that shocked me.

The characters are likeable enough despite - or because of - their flaws, and I liked that he made up with his family at the end and that Glyndon came into her own because of Killian.

If i could give this book 0 stars I would.

Grape and SA romanticisation is disgusting and the author should be ashamed.

So many characters to keep up with. I don’t know if I can get over the fact that Killian SA’s her over and over. I should probably give this a lower rating. Puked during the epilogue and the “my monster” parts. How is every man we meet the “most powerful”. What a buildup over the fake dead friend to be resolved in a few lines. I also love how Ava, Annika and Cece (I think that’s their names) just disappears after a few chapters. Also the my lord guy is super annoying nothing he says makes sense. I also think this book goes above just being “dark” and the writer uses shock value.  I also think people who say “if you think this is dark you should read …” should reevaluate their position on these types of books and how being desensitised against SA contributes to gender based violence.

Got bored with repition of sociopathic behavior and FMC responses to it, not enough actual plot to moving the book forward.
