A must read. Was able to put it down, but that could have been the pandemic.

Well written, well structured, great voice, interesting characters, realistic situations. A really good book.

Infuriating tho. Just the reality of racism in our country and how it hasn't changed. Like...this book was before Breonna Taylor and George Floyd, real life events that put a huge spotlight on this exact behavior. The book's just so spot on with how people are.

The insecurities and issues Star has are shown well. The gaping holes in our system are shown well. The problems in black communities are shown well.

This was Angie's first novel? Wow is all I can say. Love the main characters; especially Starr, her family and friends. It's a fast read which will make you think and feel. I can't wait to read her next book...because there will be one. Everyone must read this book. You will not be disappointed ❤

I love this book. I love this book. I LOVE this book. (Get ready for a lot of love.) This book is so important for obvious reasons, and it tackles so many issues than just racism and discrimination. I loved the themes of identity, community, and family. Especially family. Starr’s parents were visible characters that were fleshed out with backgrounds and personalities. The dynamic of this family was like a team who were protecting and supporting each other. We just need more books like this overall that are not afraid to speak out about the injustices of our system.
