Maybe it’s because I read an ebook version, or maybe it’s the translation, but this was nowhere near the poetic and heartfelt beauty of her earlier works. So many times I was drawn into the story, only to be thwarted by dialogue best described as pedestrian. A tail of love and family over multiple generations, this was a forgettable book, but it has made me wonder whether I should revisit her earlier books.

A very good and interesting book that showed me a new insight about love, life and people.

This in an epic tale: historical & romance, involving a romance from WWII to modern era. It is both heartbreaking and realistic. Ichimei and Alma are the star crossed lovers of their time. This feels like it could be real. In the modern era we have Irina, the Moldovan immigrant who becomes close to Alma and is entrusted with her secrets all the while Irina’s skin crawling childhood secrets come to light as well. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ #mbcreadathon
