this was bizarre, ghostly, sad and so good. I think it would have been even better if I read it in one go. this novel is an exploration of desire, grief, family and just wanting to be loved; and then all the carnality and monstrosity that comes with it.
I wasn’t expecting the story to be told in four  different povs, but I think it worked well for the varying themes in the book. their povs mostly gave concise glances into the story, but it painted each character’s monstrous identity so thoroughly.
is monstrilio human? or just a manifestation of human emotions? what makes monstrilio a human vs. a monster? I have been thinking about this book too much already.

This book kept me enthralled all the way through. It’s surprising and genre-bending. I did not expect to fall in love with the characters the way I did. They surprise you. They resonate with parts of you. The good and the ugly. This book is a beautiful depiction of a grieving family—heart wrenching for sure.

It's been a long time since I read a book with characters that felt so rich, complex, and--in the most human of ways--unknowable. To read this book is to be woven into a twisting and densely patterned tapestry. I felt each character so deeply.
