i've been wanting to read this for more than two years now and i'm soooo glad it delivered as much as the high expectations i had for it! the writing is absolutely insane to read but the narrative is even more impressive because of the smooth shift from naive tone to this just crazy feeling that we experience from lucifer

I truly have no words to describe the emotions this book made me feel. This book was horrifying and beautiful and heart wrenching and haunting. Not for the faint of heart, but I would highly recommend this book to anyone who wants their soul crushed.

This book had gorgeous prose and just an overall way retelling this story. Everyone knows the story of the fall but this book makes you believe maybe just maybe nothing can go wrong. And oh it takes a turn for the worse.
But what’s so heartbreaking about it all is feeling the connection between characters and feeling all these complexities and betrayals. You start questioning everything as well, you feel like you want justice if you have ever been a victim of any kind of abuse. But then you wonder if the cage that they are seeking— is it worth it for a worse cage? But then you realize that’s just the thing, the cage has always been worse, it’s the manipulation tactic of it all.
Then it hurts seeing the abused becoming a monster from it because what is the protagonist or really antagonist supposed to be other than happy and perfect, but as humans reading this we try to chip away at that even if we cling to the idea beauty and happiness.
I have so many thoughts and so many feelings about many quotes and symbolisms that were presented because what I’m writing is all just surface level; there are so many layers to this book. It was amazing!

Could have benefitted from some more critical editing. The story could have been cut back 200 pages as I felt there was some meandering especially in the first half that tells more than shows about the characters.
Things start to pick up in the second half of the book.
I can't help but like this book because it reminds me of something I was trying to reach for in my own original fiction in high school. There's something irresistible about homoerotic tension between angels.

wow i dnf-ed this for so long but i finally finished it!! i think the writing is really good, but the style is just not for me. it was really confusing sometimes what was going on? especially with the thought/speech texts. slow burn + tragedy that we all know gg into it. overall fine and sometimes entertaining but just overall confusing

I feel so many things, sadness, repulsion, understanding. This book wouldn’t be for everyone but for those who get it. Oh boy. I’m hanging in there. I’m sorry Lucifer. And also, you deserve it. Idk it’s so complicated. To Michael: love you!
