Wow. I have a lot to say about this book but can't find the words right now. As a big fan of Milton's Paradise Lost and a queer person I knew this book had the potential to be something very special.
The characterization of Lucifer and the fellow angels and the world building of the paradise from which he fell are brilliant
At times I had a few issues with pacing but didn't mind. Definitely a read I will revisit.

When I saw the plot I was so happy! Michael and Lucifer? Bible mythos? Lucifer's pov? All of these are my absolute favorite things.
The start was also pretty interesting, as creating a world like Heaven where everyone is perfectly happy and God is omnipotent and omniscient is a hard feat, but I think the author did it amazingly. Unfortunately... I abandoned at around 35%.
Nothing happened for about 1/3 of the novel. Lucifer is born, Lucifer walks around, talks with other angels, eats, doesn't eat, flies - world building is great, but when the plot does not exist there is so much world building I can take.
I know the, still the oppressive enigmatic presence of God was probably my favorite part. All other relationships are pretty flat, and even Michael is introduced with an absolute insta-love.

This is an incredible book. Something about reading God as a character just felt very intimidating and I will never forget that feeling. This book was very tragic and Lucifer is a character that I hold dear to me. As well as Michael and everyone else. His relationship with Michael was so beautiful and heartbreaking and I know book 2 will be just as great and sad. I think this book could have benefitted from having specific perspectives and not just constantly switching around whenever Lucifer wasn’t in a room because that was kind of confusing. At some points I felt like there were too many internal thoughts as well. This is an amazing book and one I think about almost everyday.
