I feel like one of the central problems with the Bridgerton books is that they try to be so serious and dramatic when at their core they are profoundly unserious.

Again, I liked the outline of this book, but the execution was pretty meh. I think I was told like fifty times that Hyacinth and Gareth were really witty but rarely actually saw it. It was definitely not evident in their conversations, because they just like, said random things to each other half the time and book tried to pretend they were clever rejoinders.

Regardless it was still pretty enjoyable and a quick guilty pleasure read.

Also the ending of the jewels plotline was deeply annoying and really shows how little the author cares about the non-romantic aspects of her stories lol. That could have been such a satisfying ending but instead... nope!

The ending is weak, but the story progression is much better than Colin's

Hyacinth is a.woman who knows what she wants and when her mind is set she can always count on it when it comes to her romance with Garreth I loved their romance and story from beginning to end the mystery of his grandmother and his birthright being a whole other mystery was so good I loved how by the end of the book  it was Isabella II that helped hyacinth find the mystery in the st Clair household and I loved the yearning moments nothing like these men falling head over heels for their ladies

After a bit of a break, finally circling back to finish the Bridgerton series off (hopefully- it was in my reading goals a couple years ago, whoops). There's an unfortunate trend of the MMC being an absolute dick at some point in the novel, and I'm pleased to find Gareth is okay, or at least not as frustrating as Colin was in Romancing Mr Bridgerton (with Philip Crane still my absolute least favorite).

Hyacinth is delightful, though I think the reason it took so long to get around to these is I still picture Hyacinth and Gregory as children even though timeline wise they are adults now. Delighted to have Lady Danbury feature prominently in this one as well.

At this point, my Covid was so bad that I basically don't remember the story...it all started to feel the same.
