This could have been so interesting it’s such a good concept but instead it’s a poorly written shallow examination of white 3rd wave feminism with little to say

I loved the premise and execution of this story. The writing was good. There were a few spots where I had to suspend my disbelief, but overall I really enjoyed this book.

my friend adored this book so i was so so excited to read it
this review is going to be so subjective so take it w a grain of salt but i did not fuck with this book whatsoever. i felt like the writing was flat and the the depiction of mental health bothered me immensely. it was an engaging read, but i just didn’t like how it was written and i felt like it could’ve been so much more well-rounded, instead of just dropping in plot points and moving on. also the time jumps did not match the development of the characters imo.

exactly type of a book i wish i could write. the plot takes place over about 30 years, spanning multiple lifetimes of (queer) women living in post apocalyptic closed off society, after the climate change became too unbearable for living outside.
what i found missing from the blurb was a mention that the novel offers a fascinating analysis of need for control, gender-essentialism and (cis)female-superiority, all happening in surveillance panopticon of a feminist dystopia. truly unique imagining of the future.
