Quite possibly the oddest book I’ve ever read. Very short, utterly readable, very thought provoking. I’m not sure how well equipped I am to write any sort of meaningful or worthwhile review, it’s just so strange and intriguing. I’ll have to have a think…
Ok, I’ve done some thinking and I still can’t really add anything useful. All I will say is that I really love the idea of every moment in time - past, future or present - still happening, always having happened, always will happen and that if you can perceive the time dimension properly then you can choose to dip in and out of any part of your life at any “time”, but for your own sanity it makes sense to stick to the nicer parts.

I gave this a 4.5 only because I didn't like it as much as i liked Bluebeard. Reflecting on it, i think a lot of the point of going through the myriad of traumas of Billy Pilgrim is to desensitize the reader to violence in the same way the American public was during the Vietnam War. This does add to the emotional depth felt later on in the story. Genius, brilliant, i love Vonnegut

A lot of it is real good! Quirky, creative way to reflect on terrible events in World War II and the main character's, Billy Pilgrim's, processing of what they experienced in the war. That is, the processing is done through time-travelling and being abducted by aliens. These visits to the alien-land sort of helped to zoom out, look at humanity from afar, see it's absurdity. Yet the book is not going into my absolute top. Somehow, even though it very much made fun of Americans too, I still found it too American in vibe. Somehow arrogant perhaps. But perhaps this feeling is amplified by the times we live in, in which The US just gives a massive ick.
