I really liked this!!

I'm ngl I was worried MXTX would ruin me for all other Danmei cause how could it get better than mdzs/tgcf/svsss??? But this blew me away I absolutely loved it. This story is pretty straight forward and easy to follow (which I personally prefer - I'm not a big fan of fantasy politics and such) and the main two characters are so funny and interesting together. To me, Shen Qiao reminds me a lot of xie lian (but a bit less sassy and a bit more reserved) and Yan Wushi reminds me of Wei Wuxian and that combination together is wonderful lol

I can't wait to read more!!

An aggregate summary for the whole series rather than the first volume:

In short, if you are looking for a satisfying romance, that's not it. It's simply not doing it. The story is a proper wuxia with a good mix of historic and fictional characters in it, many different martial sects and lovingly described battles. An emotionally rewarding BL story it just ain't. Two characters who are linked by the story together go through a lot, but the build-up and resolution of romance is barely a fizzle.
