I have so many conflicting feelings about the whole series. I couldn't unsee the plot holes, and even though I am fascinated by L's, Light's, Near's, and Mello's deduction skills, it didn't make sense they were always a step ahead of each other. At many points, I felt they could have figured things out a bit sooner but didn't for the sake of the plot keeping going.
The panels were beautiful, especially in the last volume. The philosophy was fascinating, and the plot twists were well executed, but after a bunch of them, they became so predictable I could see them coming. I really can't decide how I feel about it.

The beginning of the series really captured my interest and kept me reading. However, midway through after a main character's demise I found myself not very interested in this series. I finished the series just to finish it (and to find out what happened). Overall it started off great for me, but halfway through I lost interest and found the series disappointing and over the top. I also grew to absolutely hate Light. The ending was inadequate and wasn't satisfying for me.

Je n'ai pas grand chose à ajouter, si ce n'est que j'ai encore une fois eu des frissons à la (re)-lecture de ce manga et de ce final en apothéose. D'ailleurs l'illustration de couverture est à mon sens un très bel hommage.
C'est avec tristesse que je dis au revoir à cette série qui m'avait fait découvrir les mangas il y a plus de 10 ans (même si, me connaissant, je la relirai encore).

This series was amazing! I have a hard time rating the individual volumes, but 5/5 overall!
Amazing and so hard to read knowing that the story was going to end. I wish Light didn't die - he was the most interesting of characters and I understood his desire for the Death Note. *sigh!*
Light went out like a chump. An underwhelming ending to an underwhelming series.
Great ending! I loved the way the black pages and notes on the nature of the death note slowly become significant.
Death Note raises many interesting questions about ethics, and crime and punishment, and the corrupting effects of power, that other reviewers have mentioned. It is darkly funny that Light/Kira was starting to contemplate punishing not just criminals, but 'people who do not live up to their potential'.
