DID NOT FINISH

DNF - very YA. Very cringy dialogue. Not enough plot. Rolled my eyes one too many times. Hawk needs to learn what consent sounds like.

The banter.. the world building.. the spicy scenes.. 5 stars!⭐️

This was very enjoyable and I felt like it was the perfect set up for what’s to come even though I have no idea what the other books are about. Hoping they’re top tier!

Overall entertaining romantasy. However, some of the inner thoughts of Poppy felt repetitive and ongoing. Also, I really didn't love the modern-day phrases like "whatever" and "shut up" that were woven through book. On another note - I love Hawke... I think.

I enjoyed this book, mostly for the world building and the intriguing way the mythology was developed. The characters were very interesting and the writing drops you into the story in a completely immersive way. My biggest issue lies with the author’s depiction of the FMC, Poppy, and how people didn’t figure out the end in Chapter 1.

While I loved the story, or I guess experiencing the story, nothing was shocking or surprising to me. Unlike the criminally oblivious FMC. I get she’s young and she’s supposed to be naive, but she figures everything out on her own to practical completion…YET…she never actually figures anything out on her own and basically needs a man explaining it to her half the time? It’s obnoxious and annoying, or maybe that’s just Poppy.

The MMC is deliciously good, despite that classic “he’s so good looking and charming, yet unapproachable, everyone loves him” trope. And of course he smells like Pine, because what MMC could exist without smelling like a tree? Despite this, he has enough edge working for him to keep from being generic or uninteresting. I really did enjoy the story, I just found the FMC, which the story centers around, to be too bland and her naivety to become an almost comical obtuseness. Which made it difficult for me to like or appreciate her as a character, and rather she was a caricature. The helpless victim of circumstance, despite her being more than capable of being anything but. Hoping the series gets better in regards to Poppy, as the rest as very good and I loved this twist on mythology and the vampire and werewolves archetypes.

This book wanted to have twists and turns but was predictable every. single. page. Also… very questionable in terms of consent which felt really icky. Main female protagonist made decisions that no woman in her right mind would make. Spicy… but not worth it.
