Tales of the Frog Princess, book one.

14-year-old misfit Princess Esmerelda (who prefers to be called Emma) meets a talking frog at her favorite pond. He tells her that he is Prince Eadric and that a witch turned him into a frog after he insulted her. He convinces Emma to kiss him. However, something goes wrong--instead of turning Eadric back into a human, the kiss turns Emma into a frog. Thus begins their hilarious adventures as they try to regain their human forms.

Cute fractured fairy tale. A quick, easy, and fun read that fairy tale fans will enjoy.

I wanted a quick read and I read the entire series in elementary school and remember loving it. I couldn’t get enough. I’m still giving it three stars because for a children’s book it’s a good book but it doesn’t carry over to other ages even on the nostalgia level. I think the rest of the series might get more interesting but I’m not gonna reread that almost a decade later. Everything seemed so awkwardly fast paced and over dramatic which is probably great for kids with lower attention spans for reading. The whole thing happens in like 2 or 3 days...and Emeralda is not even 14 years old??? I swear she was like a full adult to me when I was 9.

cute but also dragged on a bit so it was slow for me to get into despite being a 200-page book

- This was a cute and fun middle grade read, where I didn't know what would happen next/how they'd get out of any messes
- It was weird in a fun way (i.e. a frog dressing up as the swamp fairy because they're uncertain whether there actually is a swamp fairy)
- The princess isn't perfect and that's okay - and it's often what saves her
- The friendship between the two frogs seems genuine and sweet
- The kiss in this has consent, no unconscious smooching of princesses to revive them
- The magic in this was fun and I look forward to seeing where it could go

The Frog Princess (The Tales of the Frog Princess #1) by E.D. Baker – This first book is my favorite in the series, but the whole series was a fun middle grades fairy tale! Happy Reading!

I was actually surprised at how well this stood up to the test of time.

The Frog Princess was one of my favorite books in Elementary school, and was one I reread constantly well into high school, but this was the first time I’ve picked it up in at least 9 years. It was just as fun and sweet as I remember it being, and made me so nostalgic to reread the rest of the series. I can’t wait to share this one with my kids.

OMG this was so cute. I loved the Disney movie The Princess and The Frog, so when I saw this I had to give it a go. I enjoyed reading the tale of Princess Emeralda or better known as Emma. Emma who is not your typical princess and who is always clumsy. One day she is told that she is now engaged to a prince that loves himself more than he loves others. Not wishing to marry a vain prince Emma decides run away to her favourite place by the swamp. In the swamp she meets a talking toad. This toad claims to be the lost prince Eadric. He tells her that he has been cursed by an old witch and that he needs a princess to kiss him to return back into a frog. So Emma kisses him and then promptly turns in a frog herself. With the help from a flurry of various animals. Emma and Eadric go on a adventure to find a way to turn them both back into humans.

This story has everything a classic fairy-tale should have, witches, fairies and lots of magic. I adored the writing style and the humour of this adorable tale.

2.5 stars--it's cute, but definitely for a younger audience (3-5 grade probably)

This book was super cute. I didn’t expect to like it as much as I did. The story was sweet and the characters were funny.
