3.5 stars Historical fiction about the German invasion in Poland. Elibeta is stuck in an apartment all the time until she talks her neighbor Sara into letting her help smuggle kids out of the ghetto.
The thought of a parent having to give up their children to save their life is just heart wrenching. The treatment of human beings during that time is just unfathomable. Well written

Such a fabulous book. Just like The Things We Cannot Say, I could not put it down!
The connection between the Warsaw Orphan and the Things We Cannot Say is incredible!! This a harrowing and tragic tale!

Enjoyed reading this book, the author did not sugar coat life in Poland for the Jewish population during WW2. I do wish there was more closure at the end. A glimpse of Roman and Emilia in the future, if Roman ever found any more of his family, or what happened to them. Just something more than the way it ended.
This was hard to read with everything going on in Ukraine right now. Typically when I read WW2 books, I think “wow it’s so crazy that this could happen” and….here we are. But still, I loved the continuation from “The things we cannot say” and loved the bravery of the characters. It was a beautiful story in a devastating setting.
This is the sequel to The Things We Cannot Say, which I loved. I wish I’d read it more recently though, because Emilia was fuzzy in my memory. Still, this could be read as a stand-alone novel. It is a moving, courageous story of the Resistance and the after-effects of war. I have read a few too many WWII books lately, so sometimes I had to put this down, but I came to love these characters, and wouldn’t mind a third book at all. Highly recommend this author!
Well-written. Developed characters. Heartbreaking at times, but also uplifting in places. Would highly recommend.

This is a difficult, heart-wrenching read. But fully worth it.
