This was heartbreaking but wonderful. A reminder that there are always good people in the world. And sometimes we make our own families.

I’m not actually sure how to process my feelings about this book. This book was so well written and heartbreaking. It can be hard to remember that while this is historical fiction, a lot of it is based on real things that happened.
I didn’t realize when I picked this up that it was related to ‘The Things We Cannot Say’, but I was pleasantly surprised to discover it was because I really enjoyed that one as well.
While heartbreaking, there were a couple spots that had me smiling like ‘I had survived years in the ghetto and the violence and a bloody uprising that has taken almost everyone I loved - only to die from embarrassment as this kind woman discussed my body”.
A really great and powerful novel. Kelly Rimmer has quickly become one of my favourite authors.
