Even a decade later....I love this book. It's so near and dear to me. I love how it took my personal pains away. I love how I invested my days into it and the absolute joy of being rewarded with an impactful story that even though at my age I'd count it as childish.
The rush of nostalgia I get from this book is immense. It's a book that I feel till this day is sooo underappreciated despite it's reviews. I wish more people got to feel the way I feel whenever I get a chance to read a passage through it. One of a kind.

Listen, it's no secret that I do not like Dickens. I hate how verbose he is. I get the ick from his portrayal of female characters (which I know is very of the time), and I just typically do not have a good time. I read this because I wanted to have read it before going into a retelling of this story. I do appreciate its status as a classic novel. But I personally didn't love it.

A Christmas Carol is my favourite book, but this is definitely my second favourite Dickens (and I've enjoyed many of them, as I'm slowly working my way through them all). It follows the eponymous David Copperfield from his birth, through his - sometimes happy, sometimes sad - childhood and into adulthood. Along the way we meet a vast and amazing cast of characters – some nice, some not so nice, and one of the most odious characters in literature I have ever come across! The book was an emotional roller-coaster and, despite being 877 pages long, I didn't find it rambling (yes, Barnaby Rudge, I'm looking at you…) at all - it was a joy to read. ❤️
