Touching story about growing up Black, trying to better your situation, and the issues that can arise. This story is tragic yet hopeful and shines a light on the ways that racism is both a domino effect in communities of color and a cyclical phenomenon that affects people of all races.

I really enjoyed this book. It's written well and I felt very involved in the story. It's heartbreaking to read the huge struggle that black youngsters have. It really made me reflect on my own prejudice and privilege. Great young adult book.

If you think you'd enjoy a YA novel that tackles racism and police brutality with endearing characters and persevering hope, this one's for you. If you've enjoyed Jason Reynolds and Angie Thomas, this one's for you. I enjoyed listening to this and its sequel!

It was such a hard read but it was quite opening as well. Justyce writing to Martin was especially emotional as he just wanted reassurance and advice. 5 stars 100%
