I liked this one a lot. The fact that most of the book takes place in the protagonist Gilda's internal dialogue, with her constant anxious and intrusive thoughts, definitely succeeds in making the reading experience very immersive. Her character and a lot of her internal dialogue were intensely relatable and simultaneously very funny. My only complaint with this one is that i would have loved for it to have been a little longer.
i have already been to therapy so the main character stresses me out.

i listened to this as an audiobook which may account for why it was so hard for me to finish. i kept getting the plot confused with other shows and books i was consuming at the same time so i got a little lost at times. the book itself is really good though, as someone with intense anxiety and paranoia, i related to Gilda so much. Her anxiety distracted me from my anxiety. I thought the little b plot for grace’s death was interesting too, and the c plot of mittens! my only real qualm is that whenever the author had gilda imagine something, she wrote that gilda saw it “in her mind’s eye” which is a fine phrase a couple of times, but 15 times? that’s a lot of times to say the same thing. and i think because i was listening to it i was like damn that’s like the 10th time she’s said that.
I thoroughly enjoyed this. The book features the inner monologue of Gilda, a twenty seven year old woman who is managing anxiety and depression. She takes a job as an office assistant at a Catholic Church, hiding that she is gay and an atheist. The writing is (intentionally) chaotic, but in a good way, and there were lots of laugh out loud moments. Gilda is such an endearing and well written character, I really enjoyed her. I also loved the ending. A great debut novel!
