A fantastic portrayal of what anxiety and depression (and may I be so bold as to suggest that there is a high probability for OCD and undiagnosed autism and maybe even AuDHD) looks like when one is haunted by catastrophizing thoughts every minute of every day. I found myself so much in this book, it hits very close to home.
I find it absurd though, that reviews printed on the cover say „funny“ and „laugh out loud“, like. What about this is fun? Neurotypical people viewing neurodivergent people as funny haha or funny weird, or what? Nothing else there is to gain except for a cheap laugh at our cost?
This is such a hard read! Nothing about it is fun. Nothing!!!
„Sometimes when I'm driving, I think about veering into traffic. If I stand near the edge of anything, I think about stepping off. I can't take a pill, clean with bleach, or use a knife without it occurring to me that I could end it.“
This is a very real display of mental illness. And it is NOT funny. It is heartbreaking, it is horrible. I find myself in so much of it, basically everything except the lying of the FMC (which is in her case to cope with the reality that her real self is not accepted, that she has to lie about trivial and big things on top of masking just to survive another day and have some sort of connection with people around her, no matter if it’s her family, her employer or her girlfriend), and it hurts me even more to see that other people who cannot relate view this as a work of funny fiction to pass another day.
It is not. This is my life. And it’s not a joke to laugh at. Makes me angry af. The book in itself was a very harsh read for me - but I loved it. It‘s a great book.
„One day I will die, and one day everyone I know will die. One day everyone I don't know will die. One day every animal and plant on this planet will die. One day earth itself will die, and one day all of humanity, and all relics of human life.“

Quick read, hilarious but also very real. Love the jump between thoughts in Gilda's narrative.

There were parts of this book that I found really striking and parts that I just really did not enjoy. I felt the ending cheapened the reading experience and found myself hoping for something a little bit more profound by the time I turned the last page. When it comes to anxiety and depression rep there were elements that I found very funny and *super* relatable but a lot of it didn’t quite map on to my own experience which is okay! But it does mean it just missed the mark in terms of the reading experience I was hoping for.
