I will never tire nor bore of this story and its characters. What Annabelle and Sebastian make me feel is unparalleled. Evie Dunmore wrote a romance novel (and has started a series) that is a true, beautiful gem to be treasured. I am forever so impressed and so thankful.

My sentiments have not changed in the slightest. If only, I absolutely ADORE the story of Sebastian and Annabella even more. I am crazy for them!!! ♥️

That was so charming, so sweet and addictive. I couldn’t put it down! I could scarcely focus on anything for Annabelle and Sebastian wooed me with their story faster than I’d thought possible.
I adored them both. I adored them together and how much good they brought up in one another. The perfect match and I’m not exaggerating!
If anyone’s looking for a romance novel which is seemingly light in tone but also broaches very important topics and deals with them excellently, and if you’re a fan of historical fiction very much inspired by true events, then this is a book custom made for you. It’s witty, absolutely undeniable, the loveliest love story I’ve read in a while. Go! Go read it now! ♥️

I liked it! Definitely influenced by Pride and Prejudice. Quick, fun read.

I’ve been in a historical romance mood and nothing has really been doing it for me, so I decided to reread this favorite.

Often, with books I dislike, I have an easier time articulating what it is I don’t like, and what I want improved. The opposite is true for books I love. I can’t really explain it beyond a feeling I get. I know this book isn’t for everyone, but I adore it. The characters, the tension, plot, romance, the atmosphere, the conflict, all of it is just perfect. I can’t even really say why all those things work for me, but they just do, and this is an all-time favorite.

I discovered this novel after reading A Lady Would Know Better by Emma Theriault. The author mentioned that Bringing Down the Duke was one of her inspirations—and since I absolutely loved ALWKB, I had to check it out. I’m SO glad I did! This book gave me everything I wanted and more. The romance was raw and beautifully imperfect, and the way the story explored women’s rights through history was powerful and compelling. A brilliantly done, deeply engaging read. If you’re thinking about picking it up, this your sign to do it!

Hmm. I enjoyed this but perhaps it's my modern sensibilities getting in the way of liking this book more. For all that it's about feminism and fighting for women's rights and not-like-the-other-girls characters who are intelligent and therefore also radical outcasts, in the end it's about finding a man powerful enough to make all your problems go away. As most historical romances tend to be, regardless of how thematically relevant feminism is to the story itself.

Annabelle is rescued by and submits to Sebastian a number of times, and yeah it's romantic because they're ~in love~ but is it really? I mean, I know, what can they do in that era.
SpoilerI do like that Annabelle rejects both his proposals and sticks to her decisions, even the respectable one, until of course he tarnishes his own reputation enough that she feels like it doesn't matter so much to just marry him. I know it was only reasonable in those times for him to at first proposition her to be his mistress, even though he couldn't understand that she could only be the loser in such a relationship even if the two of them knew they were in love, but I'm still offended by it on her behalf! And also that thought she had, that he never would've propositioned her had she been an innocent; though she probably wouldn't have caught his interest if she had been?? Ugh I don't even know anymore! This is the problem with reading historical romance as a contemporary woman.

Such a fun regency romance!! 🥰 Give me all the male characters that fall head over heels and say “to hell” with social norms for the woman they love!! (But seriously can I have a man that falls head over heels for me? K thanks)
