I previously watched the movie Nimona when it was first released on Netflix and absolutely adored it and related to the trials of the characters much more than I was expecting. I felt that the movie was powerful, moving and had a wonderfully complex message about society and how we treat its ‘villains’. I’m overjoyed to report that the graphic novel Nimona which it is based on is, in many ways, even better. The plot is filled with twists and turns, the relationships between the main cast is darker and more intense and it has even funnier moment than in the film. Both the graphic novel and its film adaptation are wonderful, it truly show a story from all sides and tells a tale that anyone who has been made to feel like an outcast and a ‘villain’ can connect with. A must read!

I loved the book. It's a great story of forgiveness, finding yourself, loving others, and friendship. It's witty and funny with a strong story and touching moments.

I had to re-read this after the Netflix movie came out (which is also ⚡️METAL⚡️ as hell), and it still holds up. Art is kinetic and fluid, the story is somehow simultaneously goofy and emotive and poignant and the characterisation is on point. Sure, the pacing can be odd, but such are webcomics. ND Stevenson, well done dude you cooked with this one.

Nuanced and uncompromising in its portrayal of trauma after discrimination, it still serves as a cute and heartfelt fantasy adventure with lovely character building and a mature narrative.

I’m so grateful that this graphic novel exists so that the movie can exist. The movie is executed better. It was more cohesive, felt more emotional and had higher stakes.

But the characters are still here, still true to themselves and I love them so much <3

-Anti hero
-Disability and mlm rep
-reluctant father figure/found family
-villain vs good guy
-literal chaos goblin

If you love Nimona’s energy, I recommend the book Little Thieves by Margaret Owen.
If you like Nimona and Ballister’s dynamic, watch The Last of Us.
