But above all, I love that Emily Henry gave us a strong, independent heroine who knows what she wants and what works for her and never loses sight of that, as well as a love interest who sees and adores her for who she is and never once tries to change her.

Like Nora, I find stories where people give up their entire lives despite barely knowing the person they're giving up everything for to be irritating.
I also liked that it wasn't a story where if she and Charlie had just had an honest conversation all of the drama could have been avoided. Okay, the two years where they didn't talk maybe could have been avoided. Really, the two people who just needed to have an honest conversation were Nora and her sister.
The bits about the book industry were also fun.

Firstly this is my first Emily Henry book and narrated by Julia Whelan.
This book follows and brings up a lot of small-town romance tropes.
There’s a sexy carpenter who looks good in plaid, a small town business that needs saving, there’s a sleek City girl who’s feeling out of place in this small town. But I love how Henry points out all of these tropes and takes us down a different merry path.
Nora and Charlie has chemistry. Intense double-entendre heart-racing chemistry. Julian Whelan narrated their interactions so well, Charlie’s dry wit lands every time.
I love how they figure out how to love another person without compromising on who they are.
If Nora is the ice queen, her sister Libby is a rainbow princess in vintage dresses!

- I LOVE the decision to focus on the narrative of the city slicker who gets left behind in the small town romance. As an avid consumer of Hallmark movies (argue with somebody else, they’re entertaining), there is of course a misogynistic bent to the notion that a woman who pursues her goals adamantly from the confines of a high rise is less human than the cowgirl next door.
- Charlie Lastra is the most supportive partner. He is effusively proud of Nora. Constantly praising her work ethic and her success, to the point of being willing to hand her his own work and call her better at it. I am obsessed with him.
- For a book with almost no miscommunication, it flows beautifully. These are grown ups making clear declarations and walking through every option.
- The emails!! The texts! The literary references!
- Nora’s relationship to her younger sister Libby is frustrating at times but works out exactly how you would want it to. Natural growing pains when you realize that you have outgrown the comfort of your dynamic.
- “Our family”
- I love to see a woman get it all.
- Get the Target exclusive so you can read the bonus feature at the end. It was so nice to see all my faves together in one context, and Gus’ response 😭

An eternal thank you to Emily Henry for books that I can live.
