I should have enjoyed this book more. The genre mash-up of western and supernatural horror allow the creators to play with some interesting characters and concepts, but this is hindered by awkward pacing, lack of characterization, and some just plain bad dialogue. That said, there are moments when the Sixth Gun shines with promise of a better book, like the opening encounter with the "oracle." And I quite like the feel artist Brian Hurt brings to the book.

This western/fantasy/horror comic is really good! It's a tightly written and well drawn piece of pulp that's just fun as all hell.
An excellent action-packed weird west adventure that's well worth reading. It may not have well-timed wit or memorable dialogue, but it does have dastardly villains and epic confrontations in spades. The six guns, each with a hellish ability to make it a weapon of western destruction, converge in a fast-moving plot with plenty of shooty-shooty and explosions. Great stuff. Most of the dialogue is cliched or superficially sets up the characters (LOOK AT ME I'M AN ANTI-HERO), but the rolling plot and fascinating paranormal aspects wash that right under the rug. I was also surprusied to see that while it didn't shy from blood, it wasn't as full of goresplosions as a lot of comics I've read recently. Tastefully done with excellent art.
The juxtaposition of the Old West and fantasy/undead elements has been done before in other media (Red Dead Redemption - Undead Nightmare and Deadlands RPG to name two), but I haven't encountered any stories with quite this multi-genre mix before now.
Really enjoyed this! Some criticisms (too short, action too abrupt, not enough backstory), but that's the nature of short-form/collected comics I think. I'm hoping more backstory will come through in later volumes, as there's a lot of potential there. On the other hand, lack of backstory gives the characters a bit more mystery and a more nuanced motivation (i.e. they're not good or bad, they're just getting by).
Slight criticisms of the story aside, the art is awesome! Some masterful panels involving a fight between a thunderbird and a posse on horseback complete with stagecoach. I'm not very visually sophisticated, but even I can tell that the coloring is a cut above the norm (Bill Crabtree is up for an Eisner and rightly so). The colors are almost tooooo rich for my taste - I'm used to an Old West that's more faded and washed out. These panels POP - if it wasn't for the bloodshed occurring within them, I'd crawl in and curl up inside 'em.

What a fantastic read! The Sixth Gun by Bunn and Hurtt takes place in the old west but adds a supernatural element that Jonah Hex has never achieved. Bunn's dialogue is witty and purposeful. The plot speeds along and doesn't slow itself down just for milking customers into buying additional issues. The pacing is nice. Bunn does a great job of making everything seem like a big deal. The art is a strikingly good match for the story. Overall, a delightful read! I look forward to so much more.
What a fun ready so far - exactly what I was looking for. The American West with mystical fantasy! Stopping with this trade so I can get the hardcovers!
While Western settings are very close to my least favorite, the sci-fi aspects of this book were pretty excellent. The characters are really quite static, and they only began to grow on me towards the end. I may stayed tuned for the rest of the books buuuuuut we'll see.
