I love this series.I received this a while ago to review and since then I have read it twice. It is very well done.
Civil War era action/adventure creepfest of magic guns, undead generals, mud men, monsters, and more! Really enjoyed this western horror! I’ll read anything Cullen Bunn writes, and this had his signature blend of thrills, chills, and surprises. Can’t wait to continue the story in vol 2!
A fantastic opening to a fun, quirky, strange Western/horror genre mishmash of a comic. It reminds me, in ways, of the truly inspired quirky horror comics, comics like Hellboy or The Goon. Hurtt's art is fantastic, and Bunn's writing is top-notch. Definitely worth it.
A lot better than I thought it would be. Bunn's characters lack the depth that could have elevated the series even higher even if they do get some development, but he makes up for it by keeping the pace quick and their interactions charming. Mashing up westerns with fantasy is always fun, and I appreciated that I got to see it illustrated. Brian Hurtt's art is good enough that I noticed when he wasn't the artist.
Between the overall setup and the themes of eternal recurrence that become more prominent as the series goes on, it feels like this is Bunn's take on The Dark Tower, and I prefer his take on the idea. The ending does feel a bit anticlimactic given the audacity of the setup, and too sudden more generally, but it completed the character arcs well enough and gave the story closure.

fast paced, action packed mixture of horror and western. Could be a deadlands tale. I really like this sort of wierd western stories and this is a nice one.
the art in this book is very good too. I would say: check this out.

A quick, fun, old west read! The color pallette fit the narrative and the environment perfectly. The action was easy to follow visually
Some of the fights were unsatisfying. Somwhere around the middle of the book a huge boss fight is hyped up but it's over within one bullet over the span of two panels. Overall still entertaining
