A fun western horrorish romp. An exciting premise with promising tales left in store.
Delicious start to a series. The end fell just a tad bit flat, even as emotional as it was.
I would probably recommend this to anyone interested in what else comics can do.

The Sixth Gun is an excellent mashup of western and horror. I'm going to read the whole series and review it as a whole. All in all, though, it's fun, well-paced, and addictive in the best way possible.
A fun read with enough weird thrown in to make it of interest to me. A Deadlands feel, which I really like - I could see this being used as an inspiration for something in that world.
A very different, very fun supernatural western comic. Unexpectedly wonderful.
The premise is that there are six guns that exist in this area (more like six gems that can be refitted into weapons later), and the sixth gun has just inadvertently been passed down to a young woman by her dying father. The problem is that the bad guys, who have the five other guns, really want that one. A gun can only be passed along when the owner that it is bonded to dies, so there are now some understandable complications in getting that sixth gun back.
The book has a lot of interesting mysteries unfolding in it, the characters are interesting without being too over the top, and I'm invested enough where I picked up the next trade almost immediately and then cursed Amazon for taking a while to ship it. Very good read.

2015: My husband gave me this book some time ago and now I wished I'd bumped it to the top of the TBR pile much sooner. A wonderful mix of fresh surprises and comfortable tropes, great characters, gruesome and inspiring in turns. I'll be looking for more in this series.

2020: Has it really been almost five years since I read this? I finally picked up the second volume and found I didn't remember enough about volume one to jump right in, so time for a re-read. The Sixth Gun was just as wonderful as I remembered. From the mystical weapons with their horrible and interesting powers, to the characters wielding them, I was hooked again.
I hadn't read much Weird Western when I picked this volume up five years ago, but it's becoming one of my favorite playgrounds for reading. The Sixth Gun reminds me of the horror comics I picked up second hand as a child, things like Tales from the Crypt and Creepshow, with zombie soldiers and haunted histories. The art and story work together perfectly to bring you a tale that will delight and dismay you and make you glad it's all imaginary.

Deadlands-esque comic with demon guns, zombie regiments, creepy settings and some silver-tongued prose.
The idea for this comic was very intriguing to me, but after reading it I felt as though it had been executed poorly.
IT seemed there was a very large amount of material the author wanted to cover in the first book, and to me that lead to everything seeming very rushed. Characters just went from place to place and you never experienced the transition, suddenly this person has relations and certain emotions to another character and the connection never felt very strong.
Simply i think there was just to much material and not enough pages, when it should have been spread out a little bit farther. I do look forward to reading the others, however, and seeing if the writing style is the same, or if it starts to become more explanatory.

Apparently, I read this before and only gave it 3 stars. That was back in 2013. At least that's what Goodreads is telling me. I have no recollections of reading it...I was probably stoned.
Now 6 years later I read this and by the end of the second issue in the volume I know I am going to give this 5 stars.
I don't know what changed for me or why I didn't enjoy it back then, but I had a helluva fun time reading it this go around.
And I'll tell ya what...I was definitely stoned this time. Soooo... :p
