A pretty fantastic mix of western and fantasy with some great art. Looking forward to #2.
Casey loaned this to me over the weekend. He said if I liked the Matt Fraction Iron Fist I would like this. He was right! So know I am thinking a lot about what I liked about both, what was different about them, and what it means as far as what I love about certain graphic novels. Some ideas:
* I like a realistic setting where some magic things happen. (This is maybe why I don't like LOTR as much?)
* I like ordinary people waking up to this magic and trying to come to terms with it.
* I like strong women leads.
* I like characters with interesting backstories and I like characters who are not necessarily good or evil, just trying to do their best.
Places where this book could have earned a 5th star:
* You don't learn tons about the the two main characters. Not enough to feel strongly invested in them.
* The main female seems like she'll be cool later, but she doesn't get to do enough in these books, it's still Drake's story for the most part.
* Like in a lot of comics, I felt like we got to the climactic battle scene too quickly. I totally understand the physics and economics of how these things have to work, but I could have used more time before they got to the Pit.
But it was good and I'm psyched to read more. The creators have put together an interesting world and there's clearly a lot they can do with it, so hopefully this will be fun.

Loved the art in this and the lettering was so easy to read. The plot and characters are developed pretty well considering the quick pace and I'm definitely looking forward to reading more.

An evil Confederate general rises from the dead to wreak revenge and havoc! He seeks six guns of unnatural power and sinister character, and has a posse of undead to back him up. The only things standing in his way is an innocent young lady who has come in possession of one of the guns, and a mysterious gunslinger with dark secrets of his own.
A nice start to this series!

A very good graphic novel. A neat horror/occult western. When I saw that the opponents were undead, I thought "Oh, I've seen this before." But it was well-done, not as predictable as I feared, and I liked that, although one of the villains escaped to set up a sequel, the majority of them had been dealt with by the end of the book. Looking forward to the next one.
General Hume was a bad dude in the Confederate Army. He's come back from the dead to retrieve his six-shooter, which has supernatural powers.
Becky, a young woman who has just lost her grandfather, has the gun. With the help of Drake Sinclair, a man of questionable integrity, she is trying to survive attacks from Hume and his cronies.
"Weird western" is the genre that gets kicked around when discussing The Sixth Gun. It's got the gunfights and tough talk of a John Wayne movie, as well as zombies, hellfire and a gun that shoots disease.
What it really boils down to is high adventure. This is an exciting first chapter to the Sixth Gun story.
A little short on character development, but this western/horror hybrid is a lot of fun. Really dig the art and pacing.
This is so good! I love the story, the art, the (not all so very likeable and some downright despicable) characters - everything about this!

Superb supernatural-historical-Western-Civil War story. Excellent. Must get the second volume!
