I liked the book at first and was for some reason under the impression that Alice was way younger than 17. Her behavioral outbursts made sense to me when she was younger. The way she acts as a 17 year old, regardless of anger issues is just too much to bare as the reader. Then her complete disregard to the person who is helping her and providing her with whatever she needs. It's very frustrating. I understand Finch is probably holding back but watching him be Alice's punching bag just puts me off from this book. I feel bad for abandoning it, but I just really cant stand the main character

I thought this was a really interesting take and I overall enjoyed the book. The beginning had me hooked once the plot really began to pick up. Towards the middle, it’s kind of got a little confusing for me once Alice truly entered the storybook world. There was just a lot going on and I feel like I was missing stuff. Then once she got into the hinterland I was back on track, really liked it…and then the Story Slinger led her to her story. From there to the end of the book, it just felt super rushed and loose ends were just quickly tied together. I like that she got out of the story…but did Ellery really need to come back? Did he need to get so much older and lose his entire personality and fall in love with someone else? That I am conflicted on. I hated the last chapter. It felt like the author decided last minute “I am now going to write a second book for this universe”…just felt sloppy. Overall, loved the adventure, semi-liked the characters, and wish the ending was a bit more thought out. Not sure if I will read the sequel.
An interesting story with fairy tales roots and plenty of twists. Recommend if you are a fan of fairy tales, quests, and found family.

This book just wasn't it for me.
I didn't felt it while reading this. I also didn't like the character, like I didn't like the way she was. There is this scene where she and another character are in a car and she does something that you just can't do and it made me dislike her so much. I couldn't connect with the story in anyway and it took me so long to read.
Only the last 100 pages where intriguing towards me. No, this books just wasn't it for me.
The only thing that I enjoyed was the reference towards some Harry Potter stuff but that only happend twice.
