I just couldn't connect with the MC and couldn't really get into the story.
I really enjoyed this one! Though it is quite a lot of telling instead of showing, which made it a bit slow, but I still loved it. Will read the sequel asap.

It was an ok book. If I could rate it properly, I would probably rate it 3.5, but since the rating system on goodreads isn't as precise, I'll go with 3.
There were parts which really hooked me up, especially in the beginning - it made a train ride of 5 hours pass rather quickly, but there were parts which seemed a bit... pretentious to me, for lack of a better word, and it would bore me a bit sometimes. I really liked the "The only way out is through," even if it turned out to be a lie. I still like it.
When I finished, it left me a bit meh, even though I liked how it ended in the middle of living, not really having a resolute end. All in all, it was the first book I finished in a long time, so I've got to give it credit at least for that.

it took my a long time to get into this book and then a few days ago i got really stuck in and thought it might be a new favourite, but about halfway through it started to drag again. the last third of this book was so confusing and i had no idea what was going on at all.

This was my last read of 2020 and I finished with only a couple of hours to spare. It's not that I didn't like this book, in fact I really enjoyed Melissa Albert's writing style. I just got caught up in the holiday hubbub and didn't have much time to read. The dark yet whimsical tone she took reminded me a lot of Neil Gaiman, who is my favorite author. She has created a lore that I found really interesting and want to read more about. I love me a dark but beautiful fairy tale, so I am eager to read Tales from the Hinterland which came out just a few days ago.
