Very pleasant read and I'm now hooked on Anne Rice.
I don't want to deep dive into a review, but I'll get through the big points:
1) the characters were so dynamic. I enjoyed how different and distinct each one was and how they had their own stories to tell. Rice did a great job of saying so much about these characters without making a book 800 pages long.
2) the movie > book. Sorry but young Brad Pitt and Tom Cruise can't compare to what's in my head. Plus, the movie had much better pacing than the book itself. The book had a huge lull in the middle, where not much happened and I couldn't hold my attention.
3) THE SEXUAL UNDERTONES THROUGHOUT THE WHOLE THING = TOP TIER
I might edit the star rating later, but right now it's right for a 3.5. I'll happily read another book by Rice and reread this in the future!

Dark, dramatic, atmospheric. I really enjoyed the experience of reading this book slowly in between my essays and assignments.
Claudia and Lestat are quite the interesting characters, and they definitely made this book for me. Reading about Claudia's experience of being a vampire in the body of a 5 year old was a very interesting experience, and reading from Louis' perspective, a vampire who feels so conflicted about his own being and the faith in good vs evil, was somehow relatable as well.
Beside the drama there was also some room for humor, and it had a nice balance to that in my opinion.
Anne Rice's writing style was beautifully atmospheric and gothic, and flowed very well with the drama of the story. Although the pacing was quite slow, which you have to be in the mood for.
If you also enjoyed either the book or the movie, I really recommend this video:

Apparently, I am in the minority thay was just weirded out for most of the book because of the whole Claudia being a 5 year old thing... so that was eh. However, the rest of the book was great!

Okay... I thought the book was boring for the first few chapters. It dragged so much that I was worried I would not want to finish the book. There is a good turning point that moves the book along.
First of all, Louis is such a depressed gremlin and Lestat is petty and iconic I love him.

The prose was often gripping and seductive, just like the embrace of a vampire. It painted vivid pictures in my mind, luring me further into its world. The framing story was a good idea, but the execution faltered in a few places.
I just couldn't bring myself to care about the characters after the first half of the book, when the huge turning point came. After that the story wandered. High marks for atmosphere, needs some work.
