I was initially hesitant to read this book due to the book blurb. It didn't feel right to me that the focus was on the struggles of interracial dating when let's be real... but I shouldn't have doubted Kennedy Ryan. She understands the complexities of the issue and executed the plot excellently.

4 Stars!!

This book was great!! It was such an angsty slow burn romance!!

This book was written in 1st person, with Dual POV.

I really appreciated this book because it highlighted the sociocultural issues that are currently being experienced today! It talks about racism and the profiling with has been all over the news these days! As far as the romance...wow this one was a slow burner. I was waiting sooo long for the two main characters to finally get together. Like damn Bristol, you just had to wait 8 years to finally express to Grip how you feel?! I also liked the Parker drama in this book. It made it more entertaining and held my attention the most.

The reason I gave this a 4 instead of a 5 is that it took me so long to read! I found myself a tad disinterested and bored. Im not TOO fond of musician romances so maybe that was it?

Overall, I recommend this book and think readers should check it out of they like contemporary romances involving issues that are going on in the world.

While I continue to love the way that Kennedy Ryan writes a romance story, there was a lot of elements to the characters that left much to be desired.

Starting from the less egregious, Bristol continually would stress about how she was “not like other girls” in the ways she would should up for the people she loved. And while I understand the sentiment behind her impassioned statements, the misogyny dripping from the times she says this (twice at LEAST), is formidable.

The more pressing issue though, is Grip’s on and off tirade about cops. The absolutely piss-poor arguments about “not all cops” are bad and about how reform starts at an image shift of “no longer looking at the issue like there are two sides” was rancid and vile. It ignores the years upon years of anti Black sentiment that is permanently ingrained into the carceral state and frankly has aged quite badly.

I plan on reading the sequel because I’m invested in the romance itself between Grip and Bristol but their personalities at times left much to be desired.

I have no words. The way that Grip and Bristol quite literally went through hell in this book just so that they could be together is incredible to me. To love someone that much, to do anything for them is the kind of love I want to have someday, the Grip and Bristol kinda love. The fact that in this book, there was discussions about racism, police brutality, and being an interracial couple, is so so important. Everyone should read this trilogy at least once if not more in their life because there are such important topics. Also can I also just say from the bottom of my toes to the top of my skull, fuck Parker

I loved the prequel and this book did not disappoint. I love how there is so much more to the story beyond the romance plot.
