COME ON. i wanted to find out what happened here but these girls, and these teachers, and this family, are just AWFUL. a few peripheral characters made everything interesting, and the premise of a mystery set in a boarding school was intriguing but this book didn't do it for me.

This was my first read by Michele Campbell and I really enjoyed it. I was hooked from the beginning. I was a little worried at first that this was a YA novel, but quickly realized it was just set at an upscale boarding school. It was definitely not a YA novel in my opinion. You meet two sisters, Bel and Rose, after losing their mother. Their father had passed away years before this and now the girls were going to live with their Grandmother. Bel and Rose couldn't be more different. Most of the book is the struggles between the girls and what different lives they lead. Bad friend decisions, affairs, SnapChat incidents, and so much more lead to the demise of one of the sisters. Over all, this book is a very good read. I would and will be recommending it to others. I also plan to check out Campbell's other book. Special thanks to NetGalley and St. Martin's Press for the advanced copy in exchange for my honest opinion.

Great thriller! Not many books hook me from the very start; this book did just that! From start to the literal finish! I loved the flow of the unfolding events, the well-developed characters, the excitement and the suspense. And..….well of course, the twists and turns. Just when you think it’s all figured out you are so wrong; then you think oh I know now, nope wrong again!. The ending was WHOA! I really didn’t see that coming. I enjoyed this book soooo much that I read it twice in a row. I read my advanced review copy then purchased it to listen to it because it’s narrated by one of my favorite narrators/actors January LaVoy and she did NOT disappoint. This is going on my FAV list!

I received an advanced review copy (ARC) of this book from the publisher through NetGalley for my honest review. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.

I haven't read Michele Campbell's other book, but I am going to after this one. The short summary of She Was the Quiet One is that there is a murder on the campus of a private New England boarding school. We find that out in the first few pages. There is a set of twins and one of them is dead and the other is being blamed for the murder. The novel changes point of view throughout to get the backstory on the twins, the surrounding cast of characters, interviews with the police, etc.

The story is very compelling and hard to put down. However, it does venture a little on the YA fiction side, given the age of the characters (16) and the "drama" that happens with 16 year old girls at a boarding school. The teenagers were better developed characters than the adults.

The ending was very predictable, right down to cell phones being dead at inopportune times. I was hoping for a twist at the end, but nope, the ending was exactly according to script. Everything was wrapped up at the end (although reality had to be suspended a little bit - are the cops really that naive?).

Thank you to NetGalley for an advanced copy of this book/

I was hoping for a really twisty ending but the reveal wasn't anything shocking. I enjoyed the book and read it quickly though.

I really enjoyed the suspense of It's Always the Husband and was hoping for the same experience here, but was let down. I feel like the victim/perpetrator are obvious from pretty close to the beginning, and so I was just waiting for the events to unfold. This felt predictable, and knowing that Campbell is capable of writing a truly twisty whodunit made this a sad experience for me.

Was slow to get into but got better in the middle!

Just woah there! What a book! I was addicted to this book, and if it was not for Christmas I would have finished this book a lot quicker otherwise. A story revolving around a boarding school in America hell yeah I am there.

All you know when you enter this book is someone has been murdered, someone has been locked in the infirmary, who and why and what the hell happened and why do the Enright twins hate each other?!?! So many questions.

Halfway through the book, I suspected who the murderer would be, and my guess was right but what I did not guess was the fall out to come. It all happened so quickly and it was just shocking! Then came that final chapter, which on one hand tied everything up nicely but left me screaming for more!

Rose and Bel are twins but not of the identical kind. I wanted to smack their heads together and after their mother died and they lived with their Grandma their relationship began to deteriorate and then boarding school, the Odell Academy broke them. Secrets, fights, betrayal, hazing, bullying and lies all are evident here and the struggles of leaving everything you know and love, plus throw in a murder to boot.

However, the focus is not just on Rose and Bel, but Sarah and Heath Donovan the dorm father and mother of Moreland Hall, the dorm for Rose and Bel. Sarah and Heath both attended Odell, fell in love and have been together ever since. However, a scandal rocked their marriage, could Odell be the place to save them or destroy everything they hold dear.

You really do not know people and what goes on behind closed doors as this book really shows you.

If this was a tv show this is the sort of thing I would watch whilst relaxing one evening, a bit of teen angst, a bit of murder and drama thrown in. The book was flitting between the past and present. The present being the interviews with the police, everyone hiding something until we get to the climax of the story. Reminded me of How to get away with murder (I love that show!)

The story itself is quite a sad and heartbreaking one when you reflect back, but to say any more would ruin it for you. It may seem a crazy thing to say especially I found hardly any of the characters likeable and the one I did well they tried to justify everything away instead of looking at the truth…until it was too late!

I loved Ms Campbells’ writing style, she had piqued my interest and kept it going throughout the book. I was in the zone, living the life with the Enright girls, living the fear and the crazy life that entailed. I did not want to put this down. I was compelled to finish the book to solve the murder and put the tortured soul to rest. If I had not already done my Top books for the year this would have had a feature in there! I now need to read Ms Campbells’ debut novel It’s Always the husband and get myself ready for her new book A Stranger on the Beach.

Michele Campbell is an amazing writer! “It’s always the Husband” and her newest release, “A Stranger on the Beach” truly blew me out of the water with her talent!

I picked this one up really excited to read and no doubt, it was a great read but, i knew “who dunnit” as soon as it happened. I expected it actually. However, the very ending was shocking and I did not see that coming!

I’m gonna give this one ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️.

It took me on a trip and I enjoyed it and that’s honestly, all that matters. Michele is a terrific writer and I completely implore you to read her books! Her descriptions of the scenes are so vivid and real, you literally feel like you’re there, live watching the scene unfold.

The paperback version of this was just released so go grab it!!
