I enjoyed this book. The storyline was interesting even if not especially unpredictable. However, there was always a little doubt in the back of my mind as to who was dead and who did it until it was actually revealed. There was not a character that I liked completely, but that didn’t bother me.
The dialogue was weird and unrealistic in places and a couple of the characters seemed to have split personalities which kept me from giving this book five stars.
I have enjoyed both of Michelle Campbell’s books and look forward to the next one.

I had heard good things about this book and was excited to get an ARC from NetGalley. However, I was very disappointed once I started reading it. The writing was very simplistic and the characters were one dimensional stereotypes. I figured how who did it pretty easily and there weren't really any surprising twists in the book.
I think Michele Campbell is a fine writer, she is just not very creative. It's Always the Husband was just ok, but it was her first book, so I thought I'd give her another chance & She was the Quiet One was even worse.
First of all, you never feel a connection to the characters, the story revolves around twin sisters Bel & Rose, as well as their advisers, Heath & Sarah Donovan, and none of the characters really stood out for any reason.
Also, the ending was very predictable & I can't imagine anybody would have trouble seeing the end by the first couple chapters. I kept reading thinking there was going to be some big plot twist & that was gonna floor me. Unfortunately, it happened almost exactly like I thought it would.
And I'm not sure who Campbell uses as an editor, but she definitely needs a new one, because there were so many typos. And it's really hard to take a published author seriously when they misspell simple things (it happens to everyone, I get that, but that's why authors have editors for proofreading).
It gets 2 stars just because I can say I've read one book that I disliked more, but not by much.

*** mini review ***
Michele Campbell has written one heck of a compulsive story! Bursting with delicious drama and teenage angst. Good twin bad twin, a prestigious boarding school, and a scandalous crime.
In the beginning of the book we are made aware that a horrible crime has been committed. Then we are introduced to twin sisters, Rose and Bell. Rose is the straightlaced studious twin and Bell is the impetuous rebellious twin. The privilege and the drama at this boarding school seeped off the pages. What transpires is a compelling story that kept me completely engage throughout. This is a book packed with teenagers behaving badly, adults acting inappropriately, and questions begging to be answered. More drama than thriller and highly addictive!

Thank you to Netgalley for the free e-ARC in exchange for my honest review. I thought this book was amazing. One of my favorite thrillers of the year. Initially, I was hesitant because I don't always love books centered around teens & boarding school drama, but something about this one just captivated me. I guessed the killer about halfway through, maybe a little earlier (and was fairly certain), but I still found myself racing through this one, trying to figure out what was going to happen! I liked how the police interview transcripts were interjected every few chapters, I thought it was an interesting way to keep the story moving along. I was surprised at how invested I was in the storyline and how quickly I read this. Would highly recommend.

SHE WAS THE QUIET ONE BY MICHELE CAMPBELL BOOK REVIEW
Cruel Intentions with a Gossip Girl Twist – THAT is this book.
WHERE IS CHUCK BASS?
First, let me just say these kids are awful. They lie, cheat, play terrible pranks on each other & I didn’t like a single one of them. Did that stop me from enjoying She Was The Quiet One? Absolutely not.
I usually need to have a character to root for or at least someone to root against. You know what I’m talking about, right? I don’t need to love everyone, but I need to feel something for at least one of the main characters. That’s what keeps my interest in the story. I need a Chuck Bass. A character so despicable, yet lovable you can’t help but root for them. While I didn’t find a Chuck Bass type at The Odell School, I did enjoy this book.
TEENAGE MURDER MYSTERY AT A BOARDING SCHOOL
Okay, twin sisters roll into this prestigious school & boom – there’s trouble. Quickly, they turn against each other. Then there are the teachers, equally awful human beings. This teacher, Heath, is a hot mess & I can only feel for his wife Sarah who is stuck with his sorry ass.
Someone is murdered & all hell breaks loose. Secrets & lies are exposed, lawyers & lawsuits are involved & someone has to pay for this murder.
THE VERDICT
I am Into This book. It’s a quick read & great for the beach. Last year I read Michele’s debut novel, It’s Always The Husband & I will say I like She Was The Quiet One a bit more. It’s wild, scandalous & satisfying.

Literally could not put this book down. The ending was expected and the story was just a bit dragged out, but I still loved it.
