It’s a slow and fast burn.
Layla is a strong woman. She does everything to keep her sister safe and she fights.
Alaric is an obsessed hitman and a bit of a stalker.

Tropes:
Marriage of convenience
Insta Lust
Possessive MMC
Sassy FMCs (Layla and her sister Zoey who is particularly funny)

It is a good story with a lot of spice when it comes to it (🌶️🌶️🌶️.5 and 🥵)

Some parts of the story bothered me a bit. Some clichés are repetitive and can be disappointing.
Zoey is 12 and yet she is treated like she is 8. 😠
In the end, it’s Illogical as f that Layla wants to kill a man. Wants to see what Alaric does for living. ok. wants to do. Nope.
And also the repetitive Wife Husband cliché can be annoying.

The audiobook is a dual narrated by Michael Gallagher and Kasi Hollowell (who does male voices particularly well).

I have so so many feels about this book, but ultimately - I absolutely adored this book. Alaric - while being a stalker - absolutely melted my heart when he fell in love with sweet Layla and Zoey. His need to protect them was my absolute favorite part of the book. Add in a little age-gap romance and this book was so good! I am so excited to read the next book in this series.

This book captivated me from beginning to end! These characters are everything! Alaric is possessive, obsessive, dirty talking and dark but loves fiercely. Layla is sweet, loyal and strong. She doesn't realize how strong she truly is and like everyone, is always hardest on herself. Together, they are

That prologue though! Just dark…
I love when a book hooks you right from the start!
A broody and deadly stalker that is also your savior? Yes! All of it!

Loved loved this story. Layla and her younger sister are dealt a tough hand in life. Layla is just an amazing woman. She struggles, but perseveres. Her sole focus is to give Zoey a good life, no matter what the cost. Even if that means marrying a perfect stranger. Alaric, a bad man with the most amazing heart for Layla and her sister (Zoey). He feels obligated to keep an eye on the girl's over the years. He's a hired hitman, living a double life, but his bad deeds are offset by all the good things he does for his instant family. A family which he never thought he'd have. I was hooked from start to finish I cant wait for the book 2.

Devoured this via audible in a day. The storyline had me sobbing, squealing, and worried multiple times.
I thought it might be a little bit too taboo at the beginning, but it soon sorted out after a time skip.
I'm hooked and invested in these characters. I'm going straight in for book 2

Deadly Affair is the first book in this stand-alone series. This is a marriage of convenience, age-gap, stalker/ protector romance. Although I said that this is an age-gap romance, I find that the character's age is not something that you wouldn't think about it in that context, IMO. You will know what I was saying when you read this bad boy. Given their ages, both characters shared a hard life aside from the bond that was formed when Alaric rescued Layla from being murdered. There was an instant chemistry between them so it was a start to build up on their marriage. You can expect a lot of tension, drama, action and steamy romance in this book that fans of these authors will truly enjoy. That little sneak peek of little Zoey and Gray's story is just argh! Can't wait to read their love story next!

Great dark romance

OMG! If you love stalker romances then this is for you. I loved, loved, loved Alaric. His obsession, his possessiveness, his care of Layla and Zoey. *swoon * But Oh My! His dirty mouth had me throwing ice water on myself. Then there's Layla - sweet, trying so hard to keep it together but no fool. She was brave and was one lucky, lucky gal! Honestly I too would have forgiven him for his lie of his profession. I also enjoyed the epilogue and the set up for book 2 in this world. Loving these co-authors!

This was so meh. It started out really interesting but then just kind of fizzled out. There was no story or plot and nothing really happened and then it ended. The epilogue was intriguing but overall the whole story was kind of bland.
