I don’t really know how to rate this book. I now understand all of the love and hate for it in the book groups. It’s not great quality literature, but it’s certainly entertaining. For the former, it gets somewhere around three stars; for the latter, it gets somewhere around four, so I guess that puts me around 3.5 overall. It entertained me.
Whether you support Solene or think she’s horrible for sleeping with a 20-year old when she’s 39 years old, I feel like every teenager I knew growing up was obsessed with at least one pop star. Solene got to live that out, just much later in life. In this case, Hayes is much more mature than his 20 years and doesn’t want the trouble that comes with supposed 20-something girls who might be younger than they say they are, and he and Solene seem to be perfect for each other, aside from the trouble that comes with dating a musician who has millions of obsessed fans.
SPOILERS: I found the story entertaining, and I even teared up as Hayes became upset when she had to end the relationship. I could have done without all of the anal sex references. With young adults reading this story, I found them to be completely unnecessary, not to mention they didn’t add anything to the story, and the references took away some of the romance factor. Also, as much as Isabelle was obsessed with Hayes and his band, it seems unlikely that she would allow her Mom to give him up just because girls at school were talking about her, especially when Isabelle had mentioned multiple times how happy he made her mom.
The ending was sad. Two people that much in love should have a happy ending. When he quit and showed up, I really wanted the story to go that way. In today’s world, the age difference shouldn’t have made that much of a difference.
Entertaining story, disappointing ending. As it is, that ending made it too easy for the author.

I’m so glad I gave this book a chance off a recommendation. I thought it would be silly because it’s about a One Direction-esque boy band. But it is a great romance read! Incredibly well written. Very sexy. Delves into complicated age gap and famous tropes. Also explores family dynamics. Loved it!
I did NOT want to love this book. I thought it was such a cliche but then I couldn’t stop rooting for them to figure something out. Major bonus points for pulling at my mom heart strings. Also for the example of how the age gap in a relationship is not discussed when the man is older, and the focus on how women start to feel like they’re losing their identity/become invisible as they approach middle age. There is a lot more to this book than the boy band romance (which I also think I fed right into as a child of the 90s boy bands).
