This is one of those books that I had been meaning to read for so long and just never prioritized it. Then, thanks to the generosity of a friend, I was gifted a copy and finally picked it up. I'm very glad I did! It lives up to a lot of the positive reviews for me. At this point in time, it's already been made into a movie, which I have not seen and I'm not sure that I will.

I'll be honest in saying I think part of the reason why it took me so long to pick it up was because it made me a bit nervous. Age gap romance is something I don't generally like and this story featured a twenty year old boy band pop star and a 39 year old Mom who met when she took her daughter to a concert and, over the course of time, fell in love. It took me a bit to get invested, but it was easy to because their connection did seem genuine. It was very easy to like Hayes because he was extremely mature for his age. And wow, this book was very open door and very steamy.

I loved that it took us to many different places around the world while Hayes toured with his group. The settings were always lovely and really seemed to bring you along. Solene was also the owner of an art gallery and so art was spoken of often throughout the story and this was really cool. The story had depth and many layers and was more than just a fluffy romance. I really enjoyed this one and can see why it's been such a popular book. Definitely recommend!

Let’s say 3.5. This book is absolutely wild. I don’t even know where to begin. First of all, the age gap was weird to me. 20 is just SO young I wish they could have made him like 25/26. Also I simply don’t believe a 20 year old guy would be mature enough to be in a relationship like this, even if he was famous. There were multiple aspects of this book I felt annoyed by. Solene’s insecurity throughout bothered me, she’s so concerned with Hayes’s past sexual relationships and it didn’t really make sense to me why. She also seems pretty oblivious to the realities of fame. If you’re so concerned about keeping your relationship with a celebrity anonymous, don’t have sex in public places is kind of rule # one. I also felt that Hayes was SO emphatic about how much he loved her but they didn’t actually put my effort into discussing what trying to make it work would realistically look like. He barely had a relationship with Isabelle, who he would be the step father of if this continued. Overall I just felt like this was totally unrealistic and I wasn’t really rooting for them bc it seemed like Solene decided early on there was no way it could work. Also unfortunately did have a really tough time getting over the fact that he was 20. At one point she calls him “barely legal” and I felt gross. The ending is incredibly abrupt, which in a way i kind of liked bc it delivered a gut punch when I wasn’t really sure how it was going to end.
Overall, I enjoyed it and it was salacious, spicy, and fun. But I felt so incredibly annoyed by the characters throughout that I found myself wanting the story to wrap up.

As a 90s girl obsessed with a boy band like the daughter in the book. I enjoyed this one. I loved the Backstreet Boy references!!!

I heard about this book because it is going to be made into a movie and that it was fan-fic about Harry Styles.
I have been surprised at all of the fan-fic about Mr. Styles. The After series, which did introduce us to a very tidy package in Hero Fiennes Tiffin, and many more stories found on Reddit and, I am sure, personal PCs everywhere.
The Idea of You made it off the personal PC into an editor’s hands and was published and I am fine to admit that I am glad it was.
This wasn’t your typical idol on a pedestal fan-fic. It definitely gave you all the excitement and feels of being in a relationship with a huge star, but it was elevated. Perhaps it was the main female character, Solene. She was sophisticated, obviously very wealthy and a ‘somebody’ in her less high-profile art world. She dressed in clothing that isn’t accessible to an everyday woman and she ran with her own affluent crowd. The author attempted to make her accessible as a mother and divorcee that had been replaced by a younger woman and in many instances she is very relatable in her experiences with work, friends, other moms and her daughter. I think that is what sets this fan-fic apart, this is a successful, self-assured, cultivated woman meeting a young, but old-soul, introspective and extremely secure pop star.
Their meeting is the cliche dream scenario and their romance melts even the most jaded hearts. Throughout the story Solene faces realistic and relevant consequences as a result of being in this relationship and they weather them well together, until they are faced with the ultimate test and although it breaks your heart, it results in a mother’s sacrifice for her child, making this a most realistic novel about an unrealistic, but “every girl’s fantasy” story.
I thoroughly enjoyed it. I got caught up in the whirlwind, the romance, the sex, the feeling of being wanted and desired by one of the most wanted and desired
men on the planet. I fell with them both when they fell in love and I rooted for them. There were truly profound moments of self-re-discovery, remembering what it is like to be something more than just a mom, to be a woman desired and full of desire. There were profound moments of real love on these pages, moments that made this book transcend from of a piece of fan-fic to a true and complex love story. I fought tooth and nail for love to conquer all, but as a mother when the final test was presented, I knew that it wouldn’t and my heart was broken as their’s both were. I read it in a day- it was consuming and very-well written. The story and the heart-ache linger with you, long after you finished their story. Great novel about a rapturous love story that ultimately leaves you Intensely sad and a bit broken, but grateful to have read it, to have experienced it - just like its main characters.

I absolutely loved this book. I could not put it down. I felt as though I was living through Solene. The writing was so real/raw and heartbreaking. How much I loved this book was completely unexpected.
