I didn’t know how much I needed this right now. I could not put this one down! I keep trying to sum up how much it made me feel only to delete my sentence because I just can’t find the right words.

Perdita’s story flows seamlessly from her mother’s. The book shows how their journeys in life were highly intertwined. I loved how this story focused on resilience being the goal rather than just success.
Graphic: Toxic relationship and Domestic abuse
Minor: Racial slurs

I enjoyed the story but found the glossing over the mother a but tough to swallow.

I enjoyed the stories about the author's early life far more than the ones about her sports career. Still, a good book.

Wow! I got an ALC from Libro.fm for this book. It’s a book I don’t think I would have read if I saw it on a shelf, but it’s one that I now will recommend to others. Perdita’s story is uplifting—-she had a very difficult childhood, rose to the top of international athletics, and managed to be quite humble about her achievements. Her mother came to Canada from St.Lucia, and this story is hers as well. Well-researched, and the audiobook is exceptional and engaging in Perdota’s own narration.
