Lovely, a little bit of sex, and a ton of trauma.

Quick Summary: Dark and disturbing

My Review: That just happened! I was totally unprepared for Bound by Flames. It was so dark and twisted. Still, one could not help but see the depth of love that V and L had for one another. That new thread at the end was genius.

Rating: 3/5
Recommend: +/-
Audience: A
Heat Factor: Minus points for the disturbing elements in the story; it took away from the HF
Triggers: Yes (You have been warned.)

Diving into Bound by Flames required first doing a quick skim re-read through Once Burned and Twice Tempted to get back up to speed. Bound by Flames picks up with Vlad and Leila working together to flush out Vlad's oldest and Leila's newest enemy Mihaly Szilagyi. Everything is going along swimmingly until Vlad realizes that Leila's involvement puts her in danger; at which point he has a paternalistic and autocratic meltdown, Leila reminds him that "in the twenty-first century, husband is no longer synonymous with master" and he reminds her that if he were her master he'd be impaling her on a pole for disobeying him (which of course he assures her would never happen - but one doesn't get to be "Vlad the Impaler" without maintaining a reputation).

Vlad eventually realizes that despite all his efforts to keep Leila safe, he doesn't have complete control over circumstances and in trying to keep her safe he actually exposes her to more danger. They end up working together despite Vlad's best efforts to go it alone and they make a good team.

I really enjoy both main characters. Leila is strong, courageous and reasonably sensible. She's a tough survivor when she needs to be but she also holds on to her humanity (despite being a vampire now) and she nicely balances Vlad out. Vlad is intense, and insanely protective and only his love for Leila brings out his sweet and vulnerable side. It's either incredibly good writing, or I don't want to know what it says about me that I find a psychotic, sadistic, homicidal man with a torture chamber to be the ultimate romantic hero.

Bound by Flames struck a good balance between romance and action. I liked the humorous interactions with Leila's sister Gretchen. I liked Vlad's protectiveness of Leila where her father was concerned. The Cat and Bones & Mencheres and Kiera cameos were fun.Vlad's big reveal in the epilogue was hysterical.

Bound by Flames doesn't really feel like a cliffhanger. It's a HFN with the main story arc wrapped up. Towards the very end of the story, a new arc opened up which will be the focus of the 4th and final installment.

wow that was seriously a lot of trauma and i am so glad that both Vlad and Leila survived it mostly intact.
Hopefully they soon have a way to keep their enemies at bay and find some downtime to enjoy their new love.

Just as stellar as the first two!!! Vlad and Leila honestly burn the pages right up. There is an incredible amount of emotional turmoil that these two experience within the pages of this, the third book. Their relationship is one for the ages and it's just beautiful at the lengths these two will go for each other.

I have no idea what more I could say as promise for these books! One wouldn't think that Vlad and Leila could have any more adventure and craziness in their relationship! But Mrs. Frost continues to blow my mind with how amazing these books are! I don't want this series to end, I want to keep reading about Vlad and Leila for more than just 4 books, I love this book and this entire fictional universe.
