Like, it was well written and everything, but geez Louise. That solidified the fact that I am not a horror fan. I will probably never watch the movie(s) of this or read another Stephen King novel.

Michael C. Hall is a good audiobook narrator, though.
The actual Pet Sematary-ness of it all didn't actually start until two-thirds of the way through, but damn was it grim from there.
I'm gonna go read something lighthearted and low-stakes now and try not to think about the Creeds or Ludlow, Maine ever again. 🫠

This book scared the living daylights out of me. Right before I went to bed one night I read the part about the animal coming back out of the cemetery. King described the sound of the footsteps in great detail. Then, as I was trying to fall asleep, my dog, who always slept in the basement decided he needed to come upstairs. He kept bumping his nose against the cellar door, trying to open it. Boom-boom, boom-boom. I thought for sure there was a dog zombie coming after me. That was the night I decided it was ok for my dog to sleep upstairs.
I remember reading this back in junior high? And it freaked me out, because, you know, cats. I've always had them, but they still freak me out a bit. My cat right now scares me constantly--sprinting off my bed at 3 am to confront the invisible ghost that is on the hallway wall.
I do love King's short story collections, when he has to be tighter with words. Way too many adjectives and adverbs in this thing for me, but the narration of the new audio version keeps you listening. If you've seen Dexter, you will recognize the voice, and it helps with the creepy parts!
