I was initially going to give this a 2-star rating at most, but omg it got so good.
I fell in love.
The ending of this book makes up for all the little issues that I had throughout it.
It was like the whole story was coming to a crescendo!
I’m definitely re-reading it in the new year!

It was ok - not really my style of book. The summary I read that led me to pick the book was misleading. I should have read the goodreads summary instead - it was much more on target.

“True hell is living in a constant state of fear, without even knowing that you’re in hell.”
The Plotters by Un-Su Kim is a novel about Plotters. Those who plan and mastermind assassinations in the shadows. Renseng is one of the top assassins who was found in a garbage can by Old Racoon. He was raised in an old Library in Seoul’s corrupt underground. All is running smoothly until Reseng breaks the rules. Will the highly respected survive or will they fall due to one mistake?
When I seen this book I was instantly sold after I read the synopsis. A top assassin makes one mistake and fast has to choose who he will help save in this incredibly gritty story. The book jacket had quotes like its Murakami meets Tarantino and this couldn’t be more true. We get to know the protagonist Renseng very well also Old Racoon, he’s a man who is crippled and runs an old library full of incredible books which nobody reads. This is a cover up to allow assassinations to be carried out via messages sent to The Old Dog Library. As expected there are many enemies within this dark world and when Renseng goes against his instructions given by his Plotter he goes into hiding to protect himself but things take a bad turn and relationships amongst assassins are broken and severely tested.
The author takes you deep into the thoughts and lives of the people who work in this dark world, you can’t help but to sympathise and find yourself emotionally invested. What I enjoyed the most were the scenes of conflict and fighting. The gore and imagery was spot on with the atmosphere of the story. The writer doesn’t hold back in these moments and hand in hand they made for an interesting novel. As well as this there was a lot of unexpected dark humour and a lot of the time it felt very much surreal.
I really enjoyed reading this book, it’s a story which played out like a movie. A gritty, funny, dark and twisted novel in all the right ways. I definitely recommend this one.

Black tea is steeped in imperialism. That's what gives it its flavor. Anything this flavorful has to be hiding an incredible amount of carnage.(Le thé noir est infusé d'impérialisme. C'est ce qui lui donne sa saveur. Tout ce qui est aussi savoureux doit cacher une quantité incroyable de carnage.) Les deux lignes sont super différentes. À vrai dire je préfère l'anglaise.
