A slow starter but picks up towards the end.
This was a good read but it took me a while to get into it. I found the main character to be a little unpredictable towards the end and I’m not sure I’m convinced by his motives. The Barber is by far the most interesting character and I would have loved more scenes with him.
The writing style is easy to follow and ambles along nicely. The opening chapter sets the scene really well and I felt like I connected with the characters more in this scene than any subsequent ones.
I found most of the female characters to be irrelevant or uninteresting with not much thought going into their characterisation. Especially the woman that the main character is supposed to have a meaningful relationship with that isn’t even given a name???
On the whole though, a decent story, but not one I’d likely pick up more than once.
