I loved this sweet queer fiction that is loosely historical. Is it sexually accurate? Not really? Is this true in terms of history? Eh. But is it the cutest sweetest little steamy gay romance? Absolutely. I fell in love with all the characters and the plot. It’s so engaging. I loved their banter.   I will very likely be reading the follow up.

This is the kind of head empty heart full (aww that was cheesy sorry lol) book that I needed cause omg adorable and I loved themmm but it obviously wasn’t the pinnacle of writing lol - I know a lot of people were annoyed about how anticlimactic/how obvious the ‘plot twist’ was but tbh I don’t think it was meant to be surprising given Kits reaction to it so I didn’t mind that too much . Anyways I really enjoyed reading this and essentially read the last 250 pages or so all last night lol
- only actual complaints were that I wish it tied things up a bit better at the end - like I know it’s mostly cause there’s a Rob and Marian book coming out but damn I wish I knew more of what happened in detail nowwww 😭 lol but anyways still liked the ending :)
- and then obviously I wish there were BIPOC in this book cause everyone (as far as I know at least) is white
I’m at least glad there were multiple other intersections of identity but damn why was everyone white

One of Cat's best. Both MCs are infuriatingly, lovably flawed, and their chemistry is touching and hilarious. Percy is SUCH a bossy bottom (even when he's topping) and Kit is a perfect growly curmudgeon with serious trauma in his past. The secondary characters are delightful (I want Collins to have his own book) and the plot is handled expertly. Can't wait for the next book in the series

trigger warnings: homophobia, classism, unfair car real punishment, death of spouse, death of parent, death of child, physical and long term injury, blood mention, gun fights, sword fights, sec and nudity, brothel and sec work mention (not negatively but tw for those who need it), emotionally abusive and distant parent

This book was really enjoyable but idk if it’s because I was hungover reading majority of it or what but it seemed oddly disjointed? I feel like the author left a few too many parts up to reader inference when I would have liked more on page resolution to the conflicts. There were also some anachronisms which threw me off.

Overall I loved the romance, thoroughly enjoyed the heist, and was super into figuring out the mystery throughout. It’s a great read if a little off kilter. I’m also not the biggest advocate for cis women writing mlm ships because it’s always a little weird and this definitely proves that. But. Great nonetheless.

The best part was the class division commentary and that fostering equity requires the upper class to give up majority of their wealth and power. Incredibly done.
