Thank you to NetGalley and Avon for providing me an e-arc of this book in exchange for an honest review

I really enjoyed reading The Queer Principles of Kit Webb. What a fun, feel-good book! There were a few plot points that I felt were hurried along and didn’t make too much sense, but really the point of this novel is the relationship between Kit and Percy and that was done beautifully.

I appreciated that Kit was a protagonist in a romance novel dealing with chronic pain and therefore physical limitations. There were times when this detail about the character seemed forgotten, but overall I enjoyed that representation.

The building of their romantic/sexual tension was fun to read and their version of happily ever after was a satisfying end to such a story. Overall, this is certainly a book I would recommend.

DNF at about 75% - got rather distracted by other books and realised this just wasn’t for me. I found it a bit too slow and there was a lot of gazing and pining that got repeated in subsequent paragraphs. But - that seems mean to be a huge critique as this is what this genre is supposed to be. I think it boils down to not really engaging with either hero and therefore not being very invested in them getting together.

3.5 Very sweet. I really enjoy seeing non romantic ride or dies, and of course, it comes with a side of class commentary.

ETA:
There’s no such thing as a good landlord.

I just want to let that percolate because it is so important. I am updating this review after reading some more historical romcoms and I just so appreciate Cat Sebastian’s commitment to class commentary here. So many other novels are this idea of getting whisked away into a life of privilege, and maybe even changing the character who started rich to be more kind, without ever challenging the power structure that creates that kind of shit in the first place. It isn’t a win to just rescue one person and elevate them to privilege. That’s not where it is. And I think Cat Sebastian gets that, for which I am deeply grateful.

ETA again: there’s even these scenes where Kit describes consciously not looking at Percy so that he doesn’t pull his punches, metaphorically speaking, and I just love that Cat Sebastian has presented that feeling. Okay I am done now.

I really need to start reading the synopsis of books instead of just going in blindly after only seeing the covers because I thought this was a WLW coffee shop romcom & when I opened it up to find out it was about two men in the 1750s…. Oops!
While the plot of this book was not my usual cup of tea, I did enjoy it overall! But I mainly just cared about Kit & Percy’s relationship dynamic & the rest of the plot was just okay.

Kit stared at him. “You’ve gone daft.”
“I love you.” “
“Like I said.”

i adore kit and percy, but the plot was so boring. it did get better after the 60% mark, so there's that.
