i can’t believe this is the same cat sebastian that went on to write “you should be so lucky”

This was a cute start to a series. I did the second book first on accident, so this was nice to go back and get the backstory that led up to those events.

I've been in a bit of a slump, starting and stopping a bunch of books that haven't quite struck a chord with me. I did force my way through this one because though I wasn't in the right headapace for it, it was well written and cute..... and there were 5 poor readers behind me waiting for me to finish. I'm happy I did but I think I will revisit when I am in the mood for a cute gay historical romance

this was a solid read! it never really got to that 5/5 sweet spot for me, but i definitely enjoyed myself. kit and percy felt like a good match, and i loved the cozy victorian coffee shop vibes.

i feel like i can always count on cat sebastian to deliver a solid queer historical romance that doesn't get too bogged down by the homophobia of the time. is it a bit anachronistic? maybe, but i don't care. this was a delight.

A near perfect historical romance - funny, charming and sexy, with a dash of danger. However, what really made this sparkle for me was the rebuke of aristocracy as a moral profession, the plot's determination that even the most benevolent earls are unethical and the amassing of wealth or power is not the end goal or either character. Unsurprisingly, this isn't something I often find in histroms, so this was a delightful departure from form. Kit and Percy similarly, are a surprisingly sweet pairing and them finding their way to each other despite their differences perfectly mirrors the arc of the plot. Highly, highly recommend!

This was a fun read! It kept me wanting to read more, and the last couple of books I read couldn’t keep my attention, so that was a plus. I loved the dynamic of a duke’s son and a highwayman finding common moral ground despite their different upbringings. I love how they were able to see each other’s stories and learn from each other (and the smut wasn’t half bad either 😏)
Don’t know if I’m dumb, or just wasn’t paying attention, but it wasn’t clear to me who was named the new duke at the end of the story. I’m assuming it was one of his Talbot cousins, but I don’t think it was explicitly stated.

"Love, while a fine thing, might be little more than an accident. It was what came next that mattered."

one of the best reads in a very while.
with this, 2024 may come to an end. thank you, and goodbye.
