Absolutely amazing start to the series. Some of the best dialogue I’ve read!
Going into this anthology, I knew I was going to encounter some 90s fantasy sexism. But I was still surprised pikachu face at the degree of it. I haven't willingly subjected myself to the madonna-whore complex in a while. Essentially, I wasn't surprised but still disappointed at the way female characters were presented.
There was way too much exposition dialogue. It would be paragraphs upon paragraphs of characters vomiting information to each other. This anthology was 90% talking about things and 10% action. I was hoping for some fun, adventurous short stories, but felt like I was reading one giant prologue that did not keep my attention. I enjoyed very few parts and was very close to DNFing.
However, I’m going to continue reading this series at least up to Blood of Elves. But if I’m still having the same problems with the text, I’m going to drop the series. I’m hoping that it might just be the anthologies that are not enjoyable. But I guess I’ll see. I do wonder if this might be a case of me not meshing with a different way of telling stories, but I won't know unless I read more translated polish works.
I will say reading the original source has made me appreciate the way the show's writers have adapted the stories and characters so far. Especially the way they presented “A Grain of Truth.”

Having watched the Netflix show first it was delightful to re-experience those stories. It reminded me of the old tales of Robin Hood. Where there isn’t a lot of plot connection between the stories other than a few reoccurring characters. However these stories certainly hint at something larger going on even if they didn’t specifically touch on them in this book.

Perfect introduction to The Witcher's world. Unfortunate that the descriptions and actions of the women are so consistently crude/stereotypical. Overall enjoyable, and the audiobook narrator is good, aside from the silly pronunciation of Dandelion's name

The writing style isn’t for me. Watching the tv show beforehand also made the plot less exciting
