I really wanted to rate this a 5. The only issue is that it's almost 2 separate books. The first half was Evina MacLean kidnapping Conran Buchanan and thinking he was his healer brother Rory, so that he could save her father's life. Then they end up getting together. I had a half to go and was thinking "Weird, there isn't a mystery in this one?"

Then in the second half, all of a sudden Evina is being attacked and the mystery starts. It's like Sands was waiting to get all the Buchanans (And Greer, and Cam) together to solve the mystery and she couldn't until there was an imminent wedding?

The 3rd quarter was the best part. I almost cried when Evina's maid basically told her that she had been neglected since her mother died and that was why she was so worried about getting married. It was a great speech. Evina and Conran were great characters and I enjoyed the book.

The mystery was kind of standard Sands, with a random long story clearing things up in the end, but that 3rd quarter revelation of Evelina's made it so much more poignant.

Also - no wonder I always feel like I should be being carried everywhere, because every single guy in these books carries the women everywhere! Even the big and strong women! I was lied to, since I'm never picked up :(

Honestly kind of boring but I did like Conran. This book was essentially the same as dougall’s which meant it felt stale. It couldn’ve been much shorter

Ps Rory deserves the world

I have been provided with a review copy of The Wrong Highlander through Edelweiss for an impartial review. This is the seventh book in the Highland Brides series and each book can be read as a standalone title. I just absolutely fell in love with this story and these wonderful characters. I just lost myself within the story and I just didn’t want to put it down. I loved going on Lady Evina Maclean and Conran Buchanan’s journey and getting to see all that they went through. I just couldn’t get enough of this and I was shocked with were the story went. I can’t wait to see what’s next from this author.

Mistaken identity. Slut? Widow? Oh no I accidentally took her virginity in a field. Shot by an arrow! Boil in the ass. Dick like a battering ram. Forced marriage. Sassy Brother’s. Kidnapping.  Gotta convince her she likes boning so she’ll marry you. Secret passages but in the castle way, not the sex way. Neglectful dad. Shitty marriage experiences. Sword-wielding, astride-riding woman. Found family.

I really love this series, and this book is no exception. While it might not be my favorite, I truly enjoyed this one. Mistaken identity. Kidnapping. And a set up by her father. Of course you have the attempted murder. What else could one ask for in a highlander book? I switched between the audio and ebook for this one. I did prefer the ebook over the audio only because I had to slow the narrator down so he didn't sound like a robot. But both were still enjoyable. I really liked Conrad in this one. I felt like I got to know his character a lot more. Being a 4th son, he never thought he would amount to anything and no one would ever want to marry him. But I loved how much Evina's family took him in and wanted to include him... well except Evina at first of course. And Evina's character was very strong, having lost her mother and husband at the age of 10, she really stepped up and became a mother in her own right. Not taking orders from anyone, I really enjoyed her character. Overall, this was a great addition to the series, and I'm still a little upset that I thought it was going to be Rory's book.
